That's a pretty good looking setup. Loving the color scheme. I wish I cared enough about that to coordinate all my parts, but my tower is sat under my desk 99% of the time and nobody ever really sees it other than my wife. Anyways, let us know how they do
So I oiled the fans but I'm still getting the same whine from it. No idea what to do, if I return it then I'm out a computer for a couple of weeks and I possibly get a poor overclocker in return or if I keep it it's annoying and I risk failure. Planning on going water eventually but it will be at least a few months before I can afford it. :bang:
It's not completely meaningless, my two cards have different ASIC and they clock about the same only that I need to apply more voltage to the one with lower ASIC. But sure, I understand what you mean.
I've seen posts by people who had ASICs in the 60s that could manage 1500mhz and people with it in the 70s that couldn't even manage 1400. Sometimes it applies but sometimes not.
Can anyone confirm the thickness of the thermal pads supposed to be used on the VRM's? I just fitted an EK-FC Titan X water block to my reference card, and I notice the PCB bending ever so slightly, not badly, but enough to put doubt in my mind. The instructions from EK only mention 0.5mm thickness pads, for both RAM and VRM, but the ones included are definitely 2 types. The RAM chips (pre-cut) are 0.5mm, and the VRM ones are thicker, I'd say 1mm. Any help appreciated guys
I unscrewed them, peeled off the sticker in back and put a drop of 3 in one on the bearing. You've never oiled a fan? :3eyes:
Someone else posted a few days ago with this problem and they ended up going with .5. They put on 1mm and it was bending the board.
And you think that was a good idea in this situation? Upside down...high rpm...sticker. But it's obvious you are not happy with the card and are just looking for reasons to rma or replace so go for it bud. Not trying to sound like a-hole but its clear cut you don't like the card so just return and grab another, preferably different brand?
can someone post what fan speed (percentage) they get with their msi gtx980ti together with the temps? for example, mine (which is going back) goes to about 65 percent at 76 celcius, and goes to over 74 when temp.gets to 80 celcius. Temps are way too high and fans very loud imo. Also, the cooler seems bent a bit.
Common practice to oil computer fans, guess you weren't aware. The sticker would be on top of the fan pressed against the heat sink so any oil will just go down into the bearing where it's sealed. Sticker is plenty sticky so it's sealed on top too. Not really seeing what the problem is here. You may not be trying to sound like an a-hole but you are. Would you be happy with the card if the fans made a very loud and annoying sound? I bet not. I DON'T want to RMA because I'm worried I'd get a poor overclocker. I like the card but the fans are definitely a problem. Now go somewhere else and quit starting arguments. Dunno what I did to piss you off.
Just about any replacement you'd get would be a better overclocker based on what I'm seeing. You're saying it only boosts up to 1215 on load? Most of these cards go up to at least 1300 without even touching them in afterburner.
Not really. I was worried about the claims of the poor airflow in the H440 but it seems slightly exaggerated. Though, taking off the front and exposing all 3 fans reduces the temps by 5-8* on idle alone. Then again, no case I've ever owned had fully exposed front fans. They idle lower than my 980 Strix in a Phanteks Enthoo Primo case with identical fan profile. Few years ago I couldn't possibly care any less but these days, the choice in colours is staggering, so it's easy to make a somewhat coherent designed setup. Sad thing is, I honestly don't have anything to throw at them. This was just one of those "Eh, why the hell not" setups. Even my old setup ran everything I threw at it I'd have to install the game, set it up and check. Uninstalled it a few weeks ago.
No that's 1215 base. If I go with an aggressive fan profile I can manage 1250 base and get 1478 boost which is decent, average I'd say, but then I get that crazy fan whine. If I go with the 1215 base and stock fan profile I can manage 1438 boost without the noise. These are both with +350 on the VRAM. Edit: There I changed my profile to avoid confusion.
lol who is pissed dude? If you think I'd lose a second of sleep over someone else problems you are greatly mistaken. But back on the subject, your posts are clear like I said. You don't like the card and hate the noise it makes and you are asking strangers if you should RMA. I responded to your question edit- and on a side note, I am actually trying to help you be happy with your purchase. $650+ is a sizable investment and you should be nothing but happy with it and asking to rma should be the last thing on your mind
Thanks man, yeah over the moon with the performance with this Ultrawide, brilliant( giddy kid inside lol ), enough as i love my 780Ti it just wasnt curring it, lets hope in 18months time were not dealing with gimped performance from the 9XX cards when the new range is out Cheers man, absolutely loving it, new toys.....we're all kids lol
Yes, $650 is a sizable investment. All the more reason to not want something wrong with it. If something is indeed wrong with it then it's a perfectly good reason to RMA, in anyone's mind but yours I guess. Mainly what I was hoping to accomplish here was to see if this fan noise is normal for these ACX 2.0 cards. Instead the only response I've gotten is from you, starting **** for no reason at all. You're not adding anything constructive. If you wanted to help you'd go turn your damn fan up to 70% and tell me if it makes a loud whining noise like in the video I posted. I don't even know why you're bothering to respond at all. Or why I'm responding to you at that. Trollololol
