Yeah, I noticed, 970 does remarkably well against a 290x with a more gimped card than we thought.

This. people are creating a self-fulfilling prophecy by ramping games up to unreasonable settings to force the driver into allocating over 3.5 gb, and then blaming any performance issues on the last 0.5 gb memory, when there's not really any conclusive evidence that its the actual cause.

In general, when you sell used electronics, you should expect to take a loss anyway. If you're selling used electronics for a profit, you're ripping people off more than NVidia has.....

I've actually read people thinking they were making an 'investment' in their electronic purchases. Except for a few rare cases involving top end audiophile tube amps for example, that is practically never the case. Just as your car loses value as soon as you drive it off the lot.

Ah, no no, I am just a normal consumer. I am saying I plan to sell my current GTX970 and use the proceed plus some top-up from my salary to purchase GTX980.

Because of this issue, majority of the potential customers at my forum thread are asking for lower resale price. This means I would have to top-up more so that I can purchase GTX 980.

Nope. Not possible. Their circuits are physically severed from the rest of the chip.

If it was possible to re-enable them, NVidia could use that to appease the angry.... They're probably wishing they were disabled in vbios now though.

Probably not. A main reason for disabling them was cost and yields. If they were actual good SM/ROP it wouldn't make sense to disable a fully functional 980 to make a 970.

Please do not make excuse/justification to support this kind of practice (i speak for both camps). Make such practice has consequences but in positive ways to make sure it never happen in future for the better of us the customer.

Entertaining thread. Can't say I'm surprised.

From the 570 and on the "7" always ended up with a lower quality build or some sort of funny config. Whether it's coil whine or crappy VRMS... and now it's 28GB/s memory. :wanker:

The cards still perform just as well in games as it always has.
