a 9800SE and 9600pro, which one is better??
since both of them also are 4x1...
To the best of my knowledge the 9800SE is in fact an 8 pipe card it just has drastically lowere clock speeds than the rest of the 9800 series. But there is a soft mod for it to make it a 9800XT. But even at stock speeds the 9800SE will beat any 9600.
a year ago i debated this too, and i went with the 9600pro:
anandtech has 2 specs for the 9800se, one has only four pipes, the other has 8 but has its memory bandwidth nerfed to 128 bit
according to their estimates both versions outdo a 9600 pro (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2195&p=5) but when i had to chose the 9800se was more expensive
why not go for a 6600 (GT)?
cause i just wan to buy a 2nd hand backup graphic card, so i think i wont spend so much on it...
6600gt is very expensive in my country, and there r ppl selling their 9800se and 9600pro in a lower price, so i intend to buy one of these two card...
If you can get either 2 of those cards for a cheap price, i would say definitely go for the radeon 9800se, as the architecture on the 9800 series is better and faster than the 9600 series. Even though if the 9800se only has 4 pipelines, it would still be faster than the 9600. Or....if you can, you might want to consider getting a radeon 9700 pro, they are going for pretty cheap on ebay, and will outperform both of those cards.
the seller said it's a softmodable powercolor 9800se 128mb 128bits with 350core and 700mem...
so how is it performance??
can beat 9700pro??
Ahm...a 9700 pro does well than a powercolor 9800se..9700 pro offers 8 pipes at 256bit mem architecture...the powercolor has only 128bit of mem..and your effort unlocking another 4 pipes..Go with a 9700 pro..currently im searching for a 9700pro coz it has a low price now...it's like a nvidia 6600 price nowadays..
