I am totally new to physics. is this a good card for physics? how does it stand against using my gtx295 for physics. got a little overclock going on my 9600gt 700/1650/1900.
overclock it to the moon an it will be fine for physx, the 8500gt i use for physx matches my 260's physx vantage score when the 260 does physx by itself,so if you can clock your 9600 to match or get close to your 295s standalone physx performance then i say go for it
batman aa looks like a great tool to test it, for something like Darkvoid with over 130k particles (on high) i think it wont run so fast, but still faster than without it. edit: there is a physx benchmark for Darkvoid, just saw it its ~800mb long http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/16736/Dark+Void+PhysX+Benchmark
i dont like the dark void benchmark,it works on 1 card alone,it doesnt know how to let one card do physx alone an one graphics,it runs it all on the one card you dedicate for physx
vantage gpu score 45,000 on my 295 with physics 30,000 with the 9600gt as physics card. Unreal Tourney 3 runs a hair better with the 96gt as physics. Physics map Nurien demo is also a hair better with the 9600gt as physics card looks to me the 295 is strong enough to run physics all by itself. but with the 9600gt as physics there should be more headroom for my 295 to do its job
I had a 9600GT that I tried to pair with my GTX280. I found the GTX280 did much better on its own, usually around 30% better.
It depends on the card you pairing it with, say adding a 9600GT to mine would probably show good benefits, ashwere adding it to a 295 probably wont so much.
you can try nvidia phsyx pack, its not a benchmark but you can test more physx stuff.. http://www.nvidia.com/content/graphicsplus/us/download.asp or there is also Cryostasis - Tech demo benchmark. http://www.bigdownload.com/games/cryostasis-sleep-of-reason/pc/cryostasis-physx-tech-demo/
For Dark Void a 9600GT will not keep up for Physx high setting, it's better disable SLI and use one GPU for physx, you'll get better performance. For rendering one GPU of your GTX295 is enough, unless you crank up AA in driver. I'm using a 9800GT for physx and in Dark Void the framerate drops from hundreds to 40'ish fps when you have jet pack smoke on screen (Apex turbulence). It's nice to see, but very resource demanding!
^^ same here, i get nearly a constant 60fps all the time and then when physX kicks in it hits the mid 30's, its nice but not 50% of your frame rate nice.
