I have this comparison table for each of the card 9600 and 8800GT/GTX for you. The new card has some nice feature, especially its own shader clock. Well again, in the end its up to you what type of graphic card that you want, what type of game you are playing, your budget and how long you plan to use the card before your next graphic card upgrade. If you patient enough, maybe you can wait for 9800 series.
if you want the most bang for your buck right now, 9600 in SLI is the way to go. $350 for the pair with rebates bringing it to JUST over 300 bucks and your outperforming 8800 ultras at a fraction of the cost. if your looking at 1 cheap card then the 8800gt or 9600 are both good with the 8800gt being a bit better for ~30 bucks more, but from a price to performance standpoint no one can argue the 9600gt in SLI. Check out the main page here at guru3d to see a quick comparison
Whaat?? Well even a 8800Ultra will lag alot with AA set to 8X in Crysis!! The game can bring almost every card down to its knees! @topic, Yeah...8800GT 512MB (G92) anyday over 9600GT !
Crysis 1920x1200 Very High Settings 4xAA/16xAF (forced in control panel) 8800 Ultra 3-Way SLI= 20.65FPS 9800GX2 Quad SLI= 30.26FPS http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=110056 all that money and still not able to play crysis smoothly... crak, for 200$ the 8800gts 512mb is the best option imo.
^^ Another guru in support!! Though, 8800GT would be a good VFM in comparison to 8800GTS! 8800GTS 512MB is still much costly!
