Just made this thread simply because I am sick of seeing all you new 8800gt owners think your card is so kick but vs the older 8800gts 640. Fact is it is slower in all games once aa/af is enabled at any resolution. I shouldn't really care cuz I own a 8800gtx but this is simple fact and know it!
    http://xtreview.com/review219.htm

edit: too bad they only went up to 1680x1050 and not 1920x1200 because at that resolution I am sure the 8800 gts640 would of whooped the 8800gt 512 even more badly with aa/af

Naturally 640 GTS with more memory and wider memory buss gets advantage in certain situations and applications. Good cards both though.

Out of around 10 games reviewed if you look at the aa/af performance with the 8800gts 640 vs 8800gt 512 I think only 1 game the gt won by 1fps. Anyways just a link to show the older gts 640 is still top dog over the 8800gt 512. Just so many comments have been made how the 8800gt 512 is better than the older 8800 640 I wanted to clear this up on this forum. Btw if you can't clearly see what I am trying to prove then ummm isn't it obvious ? I am not trying to prove but showing a link with the proof the 8800gts 640 is faster than the 8800gt 512.

    Pull your head out.

Both cards perform at roughly the same level when OC'd and the GT is usually just a tad faster at stock speeds.

The GT is also considerably cheaper than the GTS, and you wonder why people with GTs are so happy?

Personally I would not be happy at all with a 8800gt 512 simple because for only 20-30.00 bucks more you could of got the 8800gts 512 thats 15% faster overall and overclocks to higher levels. Anyways just proveing a point and frankly I wouldn't own any of these cards that's why I own a GTX.

Well not saying that but it would be a upgrade if you like aa/af but not by much. Both good cards just a point to prove that the older gts 640 can still kick some butt once overclocked.

recently i sold my gts640, had it replaced for a new gts512and this card beats the old gts640 by about 30% with aa/af enabled.
and runs about 15 degrees cooler on load:banana:
test made it clear that the new gt/gts card perform almost the same.
so i got a litlle :bang: with your info that isnt correct in my opinion
i had the gts640 for a year and it was a great card but the new series gt/gts is def a lot faster.:stewpid:think my new card beats your frying 8800gtx:eek2: at some games thats also a Fact....
i really should react on this:cussing: should know better

Actually, standard is 500mhz for the G80 GTS...600mhz is standard for the GT.

But that's how they should be comparing the cards...maximum overclock on each, at least for hardware nuts like us. I myself got kinda tired of seeing all the posts from the new GT owners saying how it blows all the G80's away (minus the GTX). Simply not true, once you overclock the GTS to GT speeds. Once the clock cycles are equal, then you can truly compare the efficiency of the new tech vs the older. And in this case, there's really not a whole lot of difference.

Of course, if you're in the market to buy a new card, no way in hell should you buy a G80 GTS. That's a no brainer. But I bought my card a year ago, and it's nice to see it still hangs with newer tech. That's all I'm trying to say. The GT is an awesome card...especially for the money.

Smokeingbandit you did not read the review correctly again. First it is a overclocked gts 640 vs a overclocked 8800 gt 512 which in most tests the older 640 is the faster card with aa/af enabled. And as post before me states I agree with. I would not purchase a 8800gts 640 right now over a 8800gt 512 because the fact they are close in performance and the 8800gt 512 costs alot less. Personally if I was to purchase a new card today it would be the 8800gts 512; however, I will not purchase a new card because I have a 8800 gtx. This post is simply for those people that get flamed with the older 640 that the newer 8800gt 512 is faster and fact is once you overclock (both of them) the 640 is still it's daddy :)

    lol

who cares at this point if the gts 640 is faster than the gt the new cards brought all the prices down. now people can afford yesterdays top cards with lower price tags.these are good for people upgradeing from older cards or want extra cards for second rigs.your right if people with 640 gts switched to gt than they made a bad choice.you got to remember before these cards came out the gts640 were going for 400 dollaers and more and the 320 meg versions werw going for 350 and over.

Exactly and that's another reason I made this post and gave the link is because you see so many people saying they upgraded from there old 640 to the new faster 512gt and it's just not true if you overclock cards. Granted if you don't overclock then yes the 8800gt is far faster; and why nvidia put such a low clock standard on the 640 is beyond me. Anyways as you said those of you that said you upgraded from a 640 to a gt 512 your sir downgraded and those of you that have a 640 still overclock it and know your card is faster than the person that overclocks his 512 :) Proof in in the review with aa/af enabled and both cards overclocked the 640 is the king of the hill. Too bad they didn't go above 1680x1050 and the 640 would of really shined.
