hi all i have a 8800gt 512mb as my current card as my 4970x2 is for sale, now i got this card as i ran it with my ati card under win7 as a physx card, now i just use it for a gpu to run my pc and i was expecting not to be able to play any of my current games (dragon age / codm2 / dirt2) well it seem this little beast of a card is well capable of playing them,

i run all the games listed above @ 1920x1080, AFx16, AA ingame maxed, and all settings maxed and i get over 35fps in all of them, i cant beleave it, my 4870x2 was MEGA LOUD and u could only play games with loud speakers or headphones but this is quiet and capable

wtf ever made me get a stupid high end gfx card i will never know lol, emm i know crysis, well i just wanted to say im mega happy with this gpu and it will keep me going till i upgrade my pc

p.s. card specs (STOCK no oc)

    Shader: 1530 MHz,

I have a 8800gt as well, and is still running everything i need perfectly fine, which is one of the reasons i havnt wasted any money yet on upgrades.

although once fermi comes out i will decide on an upgrade.

theyre great cards, i have my old one in my media rig and got another for this yoke for physx, one of my fav cards ever, lasted me 2 years and 98% of games ran @1680x1050 with 40+ FPS average.

You´re right about the 8800GT. I´ve bought mine more than 2 years ago and with the exception of Crysis (of course...), i can run all games at 1680x1080 with maxed out details with more than 60fps! I just hope Nvidia releases a "new" 8800GT with Fermi so i can replace my card.

That is a hard question to answer. Certain drivers give more performance for different games. A newer driver may fix performance in one game and totally screw up performance in another.

    /edit

Forgot to say, my friend has an XFX 8800 GT and he prefers the 190.xx Forceware drivers. He said they perform best all around with what he plays - Crysis and Source stuff.

The 8800GT deserves a place in the hall of fame as one of the best cards ever.

I've never owned a gfx card as long as I've had my GTX w/out needing to upgrade it.

I can't think of another card that had a useful lifetime as long as the 8800 has had.

It deserves a place in the GFX card hall of fame for the best value for money card ever imho.

the gt has the edge on the gtx though simply for price/performance and power consumption, but the 8800gtx is still a mega card.

Yeah I guess if you calculate the cost of the card and it's usable lifetime, the GT comes out ahead..

For me though, the GTX's extra bandwidth is worth the cost because I still have a CRT and run very high res...

One thing I find kind of ironic though, is how Nvidia managed to produce a legendary card like the 8800, while at the same time producing a legendary fail with the 8600...:)

Oh yeah the 8800GTX creams the 8800GT on high resolutions, its just as a mainstream card it fairs better as us cheapo guys didnt hace 1920x1080 screens back in the day lol( well i still dont haha )

Yeah the 8600 was a god awful turd, i guess nvidia were trying to cream profits on it, horrible horrible card.

8800GT=9800GT=250 cant say better than that lol.

    8800gt(9800gt)=112 cores.
    9800 GTX+(250)=128
    8800gt(9800gt)=65nm
    9800 GTX+(250)=55 nm
    8800gt(9800gt)=600 mhz
    9800GTX+(250)=738 mhz

    I could go on. :)

But when I had my gtx+, it was pretty good. Played my games alright with no issues.

Oh yes this card is a beast! I still have one in my rig for PhysX, was running two in SLI before I upgraded to the GX2s I have now. Every now again though I use it to still pay a game or two and it holds it's own. 8800GT FTW!

True! The first 8800GT g92 that i held in my hands it didnt even work xD But i knew it was a good GPU.

It would be very nice if i could buy a card and in two year say "Well, i can play everything pretty good in fact"

Raw performance is a thing, but the true value and meaning of building a rig, IMO, is the longevity. If in a year or two you still can play games smoothly, give yourself a palm in the back, if not, try to find where did you screw up and better luck in the next one.

Besides, successful rigs with long life spawn gives a good reason to console users of why we are PC gamers ^^
