Hi ! This is my first post on this site ( my english sucks ) I have a 8800gts 640 and i thought i should buy a second one for SLI, but i also need to buy a SLI mobo ( 680i ) Should i just wait for the 8900 series or go for SLI? What do you guys think? thanks
unless you absolutely need it, just wait. if you really want something to perform better, you could always go with the GTX or Ultra or wait from the Radeons to come out and see how they perform.
go with the 8800GTX instead (it should be enough)...and when its performance isnt enough, get another one
What WawaY said, GTS compared to a GTX is alot in terms of performance so you mays well spend it on upgrading to a GTX, What CPU you got? as you wouldnt wanna bring down the overall pace of the GTX.
I have the E6600 running at stock speed, 2 gb ram, GA-dq6. i'm gaming at 1280x1024. i wanna go SLI because i get crap performance in STALKER, Oblivion,R6:Vegas( max settings AA4x AF 16x) I have a 800 $ budget. :smoke:
then OC your e6600 (get a good cooler) and an 8800GTX OC and isnt the DQ6 for crossfire? or is that the 680i DQ6?
SLI is so over rated....going SLI WILL NOT help games like Stalker and RB6 Vegas because, guess why?....the game developers didnt make those games support SLI, so they will run just the same as not having SLI. i know because i have SLI and im finding out more and more that theres hardly any games that support it fully. save your money, especially when you are going to buy some 8*00's and the games you think supports SLI but dont.
He has a 8800 GTS 640mb, and some are suggesting he buy a GTX??? wtf. Not a good bang for the buck upgrade imo. He simply needs to oc his cpu and video card. Going to a single GTX from what he has is a waste of money.
Hi gigibecali and welcome to Guru3D , would you please update your profile under your name , that way we gurus know what type of hardware you have in order to help you out. I would not recommend SLI unless you have a 30 inch monitor and run games at 2560X1600 but since you play games at 1280x1024 a single card should be enough. Try overclocking your 6600 to at least 3.6 or higher and overclock that GTS to 675/1025 , i used to have a GTS and never had any problems running oblivion on high settings. But since i play games at 1680x 1050 WS XHD i did upgraded to a GTX , it is well worth it only if you play at high resolutions like 1600/1200 and above. In my opinion just like the guys posted before me , no need to buy a new card just overclock your cpu and gpu and you will be fine. Good Luck.
So you guys think i should just OC the card and the CPU and wait for new video cards? I am very scared to OC the Video card because it will be for the first time P.S profile updated
OK. i am going to buy another 2 gb of ram an wait for new video cards. i'm gonna oc the GPU till smoke comes out Thanks guys!! you are the BEST !!
Well i wouldn't advice that much oc'ing on the GTS but give it a little boost and im sure it will be perfectly capable at your resolution. Id recommend using the Riva tuner from the guru 3d site, its very easy to OC and adjust fan speed to take the new speeds.
