I just ordered the FX 8350 because my current CPU (or motherboard) is on its deathbed and I've been checking into games that can actually utilize 8 cores and all the information I've found is that Unread 4, Cry 3, and a couple other game engines support it, but no information on games that actually make use of all 8 cores.

Man, I wish you had asked this question BEFORE you ordered that cpu.

Well I'm upgrading from a Phenom II 1070T and it was $150, so I really doubt I'm going to hate it too much even if single thread optimization isn't there.

For your current gpu it should be fine.

Should be enough, if you don't expect too much from it. Also perhaps throw some oc on it, but not with the stock cooler.

I honestly just want to play Kerbal Space Program- And maybe a few other games that my current machine can already play, and the 8350 comes with Total War Warhammer for free so that too.

Should have went with an intel platform, most games can't use even 4 threads properly, in that case the fx will be trailing even more.

As said before, you may want to OC as much as you can.

I went with a $150 CPU as an emergency measure because my current is in the process of dying.

Tbh, I'm not sure how much performance you will gain in games from upgrading Phenom II x6 to fx 83xx cpu.

    In that case its fine.

But on that note, FX 8350 is a 200watt processor.

What exact model is your mobo?

Many do not last long because their VRMs aren't beefed up enough for such a high wattage part.

I'd return it if you still can, you're gonna be very disappointed with it.

Any suggestions for similarly priced options?

On AMD's side? Zero. I'd take the long route and get a very entry based skylake cpu + mobo.

How much did you pay for the new cpu and motherboard? Around $250?

130 for an ASUS AM3+ motherboard and 160 for the CPU

Would a 4690 (NON k) and compatible motherboard cost much more than that? Because that would be a MUCH better investment.

    For $337 I can get..... Intel Core i5-4690K Haswell 3.5GHz Quad-Core, ASRock H97M Pro4 LGA 1150 H97 mATX, HyperX Fury Black Series 8GB DDR3 1600

Yep, though you may not be able to overclock the cpu with that motherboard, so an unlocked (k) version of 4690 is perhaps pointless.

Edit: on the other hand, you may get that 4690k and see how this thing works out.
