ok i upgraded from the 8.7 beta to the new ones 8.7, but i cannot get the fan fix to work. I did the same as in the 8.7beta drivers. The change is in my config, but the fan speed is just not changing. anyone shed any light on this? my gpu is way too hot **sorry my bad... its working now
You have to RE-ENABLE the CCC (Catalyst Control Center) and then UNLOCK the Overdrive function again. You have to do this every time you change drivers because they sometimes change the CCC application itself. This is why I always do a custom install. It gives you a run-down of what exactly has been changed (or needs updating) in your current system configuration, I.E. They added a new CCC panel in the official 8.7s that is different from the 8.7 betas.
Yes.. And also the profiles are stored in a 'profiles' sub folder in the ACE folder now. Before they were directly in ACE.
Do you mind telling this newb how to re-enable the overdrive tab? It is checked but everything including the checkbox is greyed out. I don't recall having done anything in the previous version. Since the upgrade, mine refuses to see my profile with the fan speed. There is a profiles.xml in the folder above the profiles folder and it has the fan speed set at 20. If I edit that file, it changes back to 20. I can't get it to recognize the fan speed in my profile or change the profiles.xml which it appears to be using. Sorry I bothered to update at this point.
I am also a newb with a similar problem.. Overdrive is "unlocked" and the box is tick to say it is enabled. I created a profile (saved and activated etc.) but can not find the actual xml file. The ACI folder is empty?? C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Application Data\ATI\ACE = EMPTY But there is a shortcut to the profile? Which when tracked back goes to CLI file in - C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static Perhaps if have done something wrong.. any help would be appreciated.. P.S My 4850 idles at mid 50C's (56C right now) and underload (1hr of Assassin's Creed) hit 80C..?
Sorry.. I have found it now.. WOW though not bad.. Changed to 35% and dropped to idle of 45C.. With NO noticeable sound difference.. If I create a new profile, save it and make NO changes is that essentially the default fan protocol?? Neat Fix.. Thanks for the space
How do you "RE-ENABLE" CCC? I can't get the fan fix to do anything even though I'm setting it to manual and at 50 percent, but when I activate the profile, it does nothing... And when I set custom clocks it goes right back to default, and on GPU-Z, on the "graphics card" tab, it says the correct clocks, then on the "sensors" tab, it says 500 core and 750 memory, what the F***.:bang: Why the hell does it say under current clock 500 core and 750 memory... it also says it on GPU-Z, and no matter what the f*** I do, I can't change it.. 8.7 sucks. I also reinstalled everything to no avail. When I uninstall the driver, it's at it proper speeds! As soon as I install it, it goes to 500 and 750.. What a piece of ****. Hah! And then when I try to install the 8.6 display drivers, it says it's successful, however there not installed, good f****** job ati.
Fan fix for 2 cards Just wondering if anyone has got this to work.. when i load the profile for both cards it doesnt change the speed for both, only one. Anyone else have this problem?
Damn that fix helped me.. Standby Default: 20% = 60 degreese My: 60% = 40 degreese Charged Default: 20% = 80 degreese My: 60% = 52 degreese I made 4 profiles now (35% for standby, 45% for gaming and 65% for rendering). EDIT: the biggest useful efficiency is between 20% and 30%.
Ok I understand the clock frequency things during 3D and 2D. However I still can't get the damn fan fix to work, I hit activate profile and it does nothing...
Yes, it's checked, and the lock is unlocked, and I even have it overclocked, but 85+C under load 62C idle doesn't suit me to well, I need that fan fix to work.. I was playing Crysis DX10, and all on very high while doing that night single player mission where there is a lot of explosions and stuff. Then the game locked up, PC froze, I shut it off as fast as possible.. Then I smelled a weird smoke smell.. Thank god it still works great and it didn't f*** it up. I can successfully say Crysis almost blew up my GPU. (I don't know if it's just me, but I think I need it to be a bit cooler than it is right now.) :evil2: I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I have Vista Ultimate 64-Bit w/ Catalyst 8.7. Wow, GG, I'm such a nub... Notice in that screenshot how I have my 50 percent in the wrong part LOL. I fixed it now, thanks everyone.
