Hi all, Just got an XFX Radeon HD 7950, and it appears to be stuck at PCI-E 1.1 16x, have tried diff PCI-E slots and this made no difference, my old 4870x2 was reporting PCI-E 2.0 working fine. Any ideas? David.
Have you tried going to Device Manager > Right click the GPU > Update Driver > Browse computer for driver > Manually choose the same driver from the list as you already have installed and tell it to install that one again ? I've fixed that problem, and other clock issues by just doing that Its as if the driver was not actually installed fully for some reason Other things would be to reset the BIOS and set it back up again manually, I've had PCI-E lane speed problems fixed that way too
PCI-E Link power management is probably set for high power saving instead of moderate. Moderate will automatically adjust to PCI-E 2.0 (or 3.0 for that card on supported platforms) when there is a graphical load, I believe on maximum it stays at the lower speed..
Last you can do is stick that GPU in another machine and see what happens there, and vice versa, stick a known working card in your machine you`ll get your answer that way I expect
This could also be an issue with the existing OS installation, a driver issue (not being updated), or even a bios issue. Have you updated the computer bios to the latest version?
It's reporting the right speed. You're limited to PCIe 1.1 with Skulltrail. Yeah I know you said it reported PCIe 2.0 with your 4870x2 but it was probably a glitch.
According to this: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-skulltrail-part-1,1768-9.html nforce100s support PCI-E 2.0, as does the 5400 chipset.
