Anyone else experiencing a long pause during post session of your machine? I upgraded from a 6900XT to 7900XT only to see at least 10-15 seconds of additional black screen at post. It takes even longer if you want to get into bios. I updated bios since the card was installed with no change. I've never seen this from changing of a video card and I've had a lot of them. This machine booted in under 15 seconds. Now it's close to 30 seconds. The mainboard is a Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X DDR4
I would try toggling CSM. I don't know about other RDNA2 cards, but my 6600 XT shows a new section in my BIOS (AMD GPU health or something; it's empty) and also exposes some UEFI firmware info if I have the GPU booting in UEFI mode. If I enable CSM, both the BIOS page and UEFI firmware links go away. It's possible your motherboard's BIOS may boot quicker with the GPU legacy or UEFI VBIOS.
Thank you. It worked. According to task manager, 25 second bios time is now 8 second bios time. That was very annoying, especially when tweaking and restarting. Getting into bios took forever.
I checked EVERY damn setting in bios numerous times. Reverted to older bios(s). Put a different card in, boots up normally. I'm defeated. There is no way around this and I'm stuck with it. Other than the long post time, the card acts normally and performs great when up and running, no other issues. Only thing I haven't tried is putting this card in my daughters rig to see if it does the same thing but that might just aggravate me more.
Powercolor. I don't remember a company releasing a GPU vbios update in the past. How likely is that? Hopefully a motherboard bios update will fix the issue but I have a feeling I'm stuck with it the way it is. I located a bios for a Powercolor Hell Hound. My card is the standard reference model, but I'm afraid to brick a $900 card so I probably wont mess with it.
I just bought a Powercolor reference 7900XT and have experienced an increase in boot time. It's both when starting from cold boot and there's a pause on a black screen after the spinning loading icon from Win11 goes away. Asus have a beta BIOS for the next AGESA version, X470 Prime-Pro, but I'm waiting till that releases out of beta before updating. Disabling CSM is not an option.
I'd be concerned if my PC took 15 seconds to start up, and more-so with 30 seconds It takes my PC about 10 seconds from cold boot to get to Windows log-in.
All Bios's are different from my experience. After swapping out my 6900xt for a 4090 my boot takes longer. I run four rigs and the boot times all vary depending on hardware added or removed, bios updates etc. One of my rigs changed its boot behaviour when I changed the monitor.
Um, yeah. You new? Fast boot times have always been sought after. This isn't about booting though. It's about post and bios time. It boots in 5 seconds. It's the post that borked.
