    Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy a gaming laptop. I was lookin at a couple of them (mostly dell xps m1710) and was wondering if the geforce go 7900 GS with 256 mb is futureproof? With all these new demanding games coming out, such as crysis, how long would the 7900 GS last me. Also, i was looking at the geforce go 7900 GTX with 512 mb. It costs about $500 cdn more than the GS. Is it really worth all that more or would i be alright with a 7900 GS.

Thanks in advance for your replies

The 7900GS is about as good a card as you can get on a laptop, save the GTX.

Considering that DX10 is coming out shortly...No its not futureproof.

For a laptop that is about as good as you'll get. I dont see any DX10 cards in a laptop for a few years now. Heck if you look at my specs for now you'll see that I have a sweet 200m ATi card, and for a laptop Im not complaining. If a laptop is what you want then that is what you'll want for now.

On a laptop the 7900GS is the best price/performance your gonna get, it is about as futureproof as your going to see in a laptop.

Thanks for all ur input, frm wat i have read people are saying that DX 10 games will also come in DX 9 formats so i dont think that the 7900's will be obsolete for a few years. Also I ended up getting the 7900 GTX over the 7900 GS. Once again thanks for all the feedback.

Ummmm why do you even bother mentioning Crysis??? I'd be surprised if ANY laptop will be able to run Crysis well, and obviously that 7900GS is not DX10 compatible so it won't be able to run Crysis in DX10 mode.

Keep in mind, Crysis is not coming out until mid-to-late next year.
