    title sums it up

got 780acx sli with mild oc for my 1440p monitor

should I sell and get the 480 8gig? I run out of memory on a lot of newer games.

Would my frames be lower? should I get a 1060 6gig?

benchmarks bore me so non of that crap plz I would like to hear from ppl who have experience with these cards to get a real answer.

    yes I will oc them

+1080p gaming in graphic demanding 2016 games need more than the 3 GB VRAM a 780 provide, a pair of 780s will not solve it because the VRAM is not added even on SLI: DX12 VRAM pool is a nice on paper feature...but there is no real application of it yet on games.

The 480 is not a good candidate for OC.

6 GB of VRAM should be enough to play at 1440 if you don't go on crazy mode with graphic improving mods in some games.

In your case i will go for the 1060.

The 1060 and the 480 are already closer than they where. Get a 480 with a nice factory OC. The 192bit bus and the 6 gigs won't walk much. Your CPU will power fine any of them. If you are used to NVidia exclusive stuff, go with the 1060.

GTX 980 or equivalent would be the best option. In your case this is a nicely overclocked GTX1060, I'd recommend the MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X 6GB. The card I have at the moment is the best graphics card I've owned, performance and acoustics + decent value. Just my 2 cents.

I recently had a 980 at 1440p and 6gb was 100% fine for the res.

This. I would go with something like Nitro+ RX480 8GB. I can bet it will last longer than any 1060 card.

Yeah I wonder if my 1070 would be good for 1440p?. I've played BF1 and had to go no dsr and turn down the lighting one level and had to go 1080p res to get over 60fps. So at 1440p I'd get maybe 30-40 I think is my assumption unless I turn down more of the options.

Also the 480 option would be nice specially with bigger vram, So go with that unless you can afford a bigger 1080 then I'd wait.

At 1440 I would say a 1070 minimum. The 1060 and 480 are great 1080p cards but lack the horsepower for WQHD.

Yes but when you dont have the cash for 1070 and you stuck with 1440p then you try to make the best of it.

480 have more vram, higher memory bandwidth and better low-lvl api performance.

I'm not suggesting the 1060 at all so I don't see why you are defending the 480 against it.

If AMD had a 490 out and it was priced around the 1070 with the same level of performance I would likely suggest that over the 1070. But the 490 does not exist currently.

$539 is not bad for Canada.

    $349 for the same style 480 8GB

Look OP it's up to you. I can see the draw to go to the lower cost card but the 1070 in the here and now is much faster than the 480.

Anything less than a 1070 and you'd be moving straight backwards in performance, and not in a slight fashion.

1070 would be the best option. 480/1060 wouldn't be an upgrade.

You can at least lower texture settings to high/medium and it should last a while longer.
