not really, my hunch tells me the 7800GS will cost at least 250, im fearing even 300, so a 6800 is still a good price for a 6800

~$300 unless a major price drop for the 6800GS is in the works.

lol, I know your pain man. I just got a 6800 AGP and this will last me until I can't play the latest game in the future under the low setting before I upgrade another graphic card.

Pretty soon, I should reinstall the old games that I have and turn up the resolution and max setting to see all the eye candies that I never get to see.

if it beats a 6800u at stock settings then i'll consider getting a pci-e one .......lets reserve judgement until its out and tested....

imho the x1600 is a joke, i just read the review of the his x1600xt on the FP, and its just tying a 6600GT, as hilbert points out, an almost two year old mid segment card...

as for prices, my fav webshop has an xfx 6600GT on pci-e for 140, the cheapest x1600xt will run you 199 euros... the pro is only 150, but the 6600GT will beat that card hands down...

Ati did OK with the whole architecture of the mem controller, and the x18 cards are nice, but the x13 and x16 are both getting beaten by two year old Nv tech... the revised DDR2 6600 easily matches any x1300, and the 6600GT still rules the mid stream market

The x1600xt does seem like a bit of a flop (going by hilberts review). Doesn't it have 12 pipes as well??

yep, somehow, ati managed to make a 12 pipe card with higher clocks than the 6600gt, and it still gets beaten by it.
but they sure did a great job on the x1800

hhmm...if the 7800gs can oc well, maybe someone can bench it with 6800u just to see how well, the improved pipe efficiency. since both is 16 pipes, seem to be a fair old fashion fight. haha

great, at first they dont seem to care for agp market anymore, just as i got my 6800gs and now they coming out with 7800gs....argh.....should have hold my hand, hide my mouse before i bought it. sux, sux, sux.... :p

or simply bench against a stock 6800GT with the GS at stock too...

as for the 12 pipes on the x1600, it does has 12 pixel shaders, but only 4 real pipes, just like the R580 only has 16 pipes for its 48 shaders

looks to me like Ati bet on a 3:1 shader/pipe ratio got proven wrong with the x1600 it has almost twice the shader power of a 6600GT, but still gets raped on fillrate

it seems that on a 6-7 serries card NVIDIA owns ATI... Still for budget range card, 6600GT owns everything... Im glad ive got one...

errrrr i think its mentioned in the review of the His x1600xt on the FP, but im sure it was out before, just read a few x1600 reviews

i think a x1800 with one quad disabled would kill a x1600xt without question

it is based on the R530 chip by the way, not the R520, so its an entirely different chip, if it was a cut 1800 it would be r520 too i think (NV has done this a lot, even though in time they made some custom 6200 and 6800 chips)

    the x1600 is a full 12-piper:
taken from the review on the fp.
you were right that its based on r530.

    oh errr mistake

anyway, there was something about the 1600 not being a full 12 pipe part, i think it was the ROPS then (even if i dont have any clue what those things do exactly) but there is some kind of limit on the 1600

there must be something allright, otherwise it would perform better than a 6600gt. Even the 128bit memory bus doenst explain that completely imo, could very well be the rops indeed.

It really doesn't make sense why the x1600xt with higher clocks and 'more' pipes gets beaten by the 6600gt in most tests.

I think DrFreeze is onto something with it being limited. I am sure I have read the same thing where it has restricted something or other.

But anyway back on topic. I still havn't seen anywhere in the uk even hinting at selling the 7800GS yet so it could be interesting.

they will probably want to keep it quiet, so that they have a 'surprise' ready when the x1600 agp cards come.

Yeah thats true. As long as it isn't over £200 then I can see it selling well. If it is over £200 then hmm I don't know. You could change you system to PCI-e whilst still running a decent card like the x850XT for cheaper
