I couldn't find any reviews for something this specific so I hoped you guys at Guru 3d could help me pick which card to buy.

So with both cards at 256 mb the 7600 GS performs better but would the with the X1650 pro with 512 mb make it better than the 256 7600 GS?

Also please don't recommend any other cards these are the only two I'm thinking about.

Yeah, go for the ATI, the 7600GS is a POS IMO.

Please don't say you're buying these from Maplin....

I watched the Manager of my local branch tell a chap that the X1650PRO was the latest and greatest graphics card, that there was nothing faster, and it would work immediately after plugging it in... what a tosser.

Aaaanyway, if you can budget it, the X1950PRO is three times the card the X1650PRO is, and it's only about £110 for AGP and £100 for the PCI-E version.

Either of which pisses all over the 7600GS, and also the 7600GT.

Make sure the mentioned X1650Pro got DDR3 memory, otherwise it just performs almost the same as the Geforce 7600GS DDR2.

    Good luck!

don't you already have the 7600GS?

The ATi card won't be able to fully utilise the 512mb of video memory it has anyway. You may aswell class it as a 256mb card.

Well the cards are almost evenly matched and and the 512 1650 pro is cheaper than the 256 7600 gs so thats why I'm getting it.

yeah because naturally if you had onboard video you would turn both of them down if offered to you / within your budget range wouldn't you?

Depends on what game you're playing. If you want to upgrade for just a certain few games like lets say, CSS, or BF2. Then sure the X1650Pro would be great. But if you plan on playing future games or other demanding games right now, then I would save a bit of money and go for at least a 7900GS/X1950Pro.

These cards are the only ones in my price range because if I get a 7900GS then I would have to buy a new PSU and I don't have the money.
