the rumours of a delay are understandable and acceptable.

but the rumours that the 6970 will feature 1536 shader processors instead... thats not gonna be good.

the thing is, going by how many processors the 6870 has compared to the 5870 and by the scaling of performance between the 6850 and 6870 (according to sp), its looking more and more like the 6970 will use 1536 shader processors.

They just report what Fudzilla have write ... nothing more..fudzilla is sadly not really reliable when it comes to AMD .

For don't have to debate ... thread was here..

Anyway, maybe a delay, who know.

    Hmm, I don't know really.

On the one hand a 1536 shader 6970 probably wouldn't compete with the GTX580, not that it really has to, but on the other such a chip shouldn't be as hot or power-guzzling as some people fear it might be.

    Interesting times.

The 6 series has more efficient stream processors.

If a 6870 (1120 SP) is on par with a 5870 (1600 SP) then the 6970 (1536 SP) would be on par with a 5 series GPU that has 2016 SP.

    2016/1600 = 1.26 = 26% faster then the 5870.

Since the GTX 480 is 10% faster then a 5870 and the GTX 580 is 20% faster then GTX 480 that would put the 6970 4% slower then the GTX 480.

your image doesnt do anything to prove that the 6950 has 1536sp. if the 6950 had 1536 it would draw close to/over the 225w limit of 2x 6pin plugs. if the 6970 has 1920sp then the power draw should be close to 300w, which would make a dual cayman 6990 difficult to make without dropping the clock speed dramatically.

well that was the initial plan, 6950 has 2x6pin and 6970 full 1x6pin 1x8pin.,

i really hope its 6950 that has 384cores, although it sounds more plausible than the flagship with its 480cores = 1920sp.

This reminds me of when the 4870 was being released, will it have 400 SP or 640 SP? Will it beat the 8800GTX? Oh wait! It has 800 SP and beats a GTX 260! :D

This may be the same scenario, they may very well launch it with 2400 SP..no one knows...

Yes see it on XS too ....

First thing to know we are 1 day before launch of the GTX580 and the call to Nvidia shareholder ... This is a normal practice on the industry .... And "someone "leaking this type of rumors at this time is a little bit too much of a coincidence.

Second think even if TSMC are again faces problem with 40nm ( it's really time they fire someone on this company if this is the case ), this don't mean the card is delayed, just the availability will not be what AMD wanted to be on the end of this month...

    Ofc, let's wait and see...

My first guess would be 'interference within the Ultra Threaded Dispatch Processor' if this rumor is true. And yes...interference in the massive parallel threading engine is what did in Fermi in the first place so it isn't that far fetched.

nothing to do with that... without saying who is the faultive ( can be both), it's just TSMC who don't arrive to produce with enough yields if we trust this rumor ( again highly questionnable rumor, ).... for make it simple they should produce xx parts by days and don't arrive to deliver it.

UTP problem from nvidia was just make impossible the card to work at all.. ( the cores was just not functionnal ).

Anyway this type of rumors surface all time before a launch / stock holder conference, etc... i will wait to get a real infos about this before take any conclusion.

If TSMC pull down again the launch of an AMD product (HD5xxx ? ) , i think they will more than happy to leave them then as fast of possible.
And if the avaibility of AMD cards is less of what it should be, whatever is the price / perf of AMD cards vs the GTX580, Nvidia will be really happy...

You're making it look as if TSMC is some kind of shoe factory. Low yields mean high chip prices, and with sub 10% yields ATi are looking at >$500 GPU's. They'd be crazy to greenlight mass production with such yields.

A gtx 580 is supposedly 20 percent faster and higher in some benchmarks and was only lower then 20 percent in 3 things one was resident evil five I forgot the other two...

Just watch, I bet AMD has everyone fooled on the specs. Have been rumors of samples with different "sp" counts on them (can track the leaks)

They have had a long time to produce this chip, I have a feeling we will be very surprised.

I was over simplify the thing ( as you bring Ultra disconnect problem who have nothing to do with yield but with architecture/conception problem.. ), ofc they will not ramp production if yield is so bad ... But myself i really don't think this rumor can be trust at 100% .... The timing is too good to push this the 7.11.2010...
