I did have to bypass the administrative account in Win 7 and use windows command prompt to get this to work but ATI WinFlash worked real slick.
The shaders unlocked and I got the bump up in speeds of a default 6970.

I cranked up all the sliders in Grand Theft Auto IV and used 1920 x 1080 and got 40 FPS from the in game benchmark. The game never slows down that I have noticed and the detail is superb. The core temperature is 80 degrees.

    Hi!
I havent read all the thread, but I bought a XFX6950 and should received it tuesday. Got 2 question:
1- Do we know what was the cause (brand, random and so on) for those who failed to flash theirs?

2- what are the correct steps, in order, to flash it

    thx!

hmm, the test (or results) may be flawed in some way *shrug*
i find it strange that in their texture test, the 6970 got a boost just from overclocking, but the 6950 had no increase (or decrease) in fps despite changing clock speeds

What does the XXA Pass stamp on the PCB mean exactly?

Maybe the stamp numbers are an inspector's ID number. You know, like you get on the sticker in your Fruit of the Loom? :)

I would guess that the stamp is nothing more than a QC person's stamp of approval. We used them in the manufacturing business all the time.

So have we come to a conclusion about these unlocked cards yet ?

The day is getting ever closer for me to decide on a 6970 or a 6950

Hey guys, I tried stacking my HD 6950's (unlocked) 3dmarks against dave's at 920core/1450mem with 1536 shaders and +20 on powerplay and am scoring almost 200 points lower with a score of:

    5220 3dmarks to dave's 5433 3dmarks

    mine: http://3dmark.com/3dm11/352941
    dave's: http://3dmark.com/3dm11/287609

needless to say I'm quite confused, especially because I SHOULD be hitting around 5400 with these overclocked.

at stock clock of 880core/1375mem and +20 powerplay I'm scoring 5026.

    http://3dmark.com/3dm11/353070

    What gives?

Drop Powerplay to 0%. There's a paradoxical effect where too much powerplay will downclock your frequencies earlier than if they're set on 0-15%.

You also need to compare your catalyst settings with Dave's.

    http://3dmark.com/3dm11/309415
Here's my result: 5565 3DMarks. I only have my 750 @ 3.8Ghz so my phys/cpu score should be lower, but I clocked my card a little higher. I wish 3dmark11 would get the frequencies and information right though, I can't remember the frequencies I used when I benched. :/

I got rid of Morphological Anti-aliasing/MLAA and ended up with these scores:

    with powerplay at 0:
    http://3dmark.com/3dm11/353735

    with powerplay at 20:
    http://3dmark.com/3dm11/353701

I'm still scratching my head over all this.
