Despite the fact that all the reviews on the net show they are essentially equal... Jeez.

You guys are really missing the big picture here. The only reason the 6800GS was made is because nVidia wants to own the price to performance ratio market this holiday season! Which they already have. For a few more fps in some games, i wouldnt spend 80 dollars more on a gt :p

BTW, the 6800GS is gonna be discontinued when they come out with the 7800GS, or so I've heard.

Nice computation! anyway thats 6800GS PCI-E... What we are hoping to beat the GT is the AGP version, which from the news it will come out this week. Based on OLD NV40 technology, so it might be unlock up to 16pipelines. If that happen wheres the PIXEL SHADER ADVANTAGE OF THE GT NOW! with higher clock and mem frequecncy, it will shorly beat the GT... Lets wait and see.

    For Chazly413

Ya we all know that 7serries card are better than the high-end of 6serries card... but eventhough 7800GS will be out to market, they will not going to sell it under $240USD not like the 6800GS AGP/PCI-E.

i doubt you could run your card without artifacting at those settings. use some real settings.

Its a nice score, im only 200 or so points up from there, but i dont think that with clocks that high its playable.

Unless you have some amazing h20 cooling, im pretty sure youd get some artifacts.

In fact artifacts appear after ~20 min. of stressing, i dont noticet that before, because the whole test took only 10min. What can i say, i am just a noob :(

Artifacts free settings are 533/1200 (after 3 hour of stressing), 6251 3DMarks

Oh and no watercooling, just 29°C inside the case :)

In the UK u can get a 6800GS for about £160 - £170 or a 7800GT for £205. Wouldn't it better to put up a bit more cash and go straight for the 7800gt? More future proof and all...

Like I said before, the whole point of the 6800GS is to make an affordable mid-range graphics card that still packs a punch in games. Its gonna fade away after the holiday season. (it was also built againt the x1600's which really suck a**)

Afaik there's only 1 card @ that price, which is a Leadtek from overclockers.co.uk but most of the 78GTs they stock are £240+ which is quite a big jump from £160, esp this side of xmas :)
@ the time of purchasing my GS, the cheapest 78GT was around £230, and I did my homework, believe me.

hmm i would say that the 6800gt is the better choice cuz its 16 pipeline vs 12pipelines, although the performance and price ratio on the GS is great and that would be a huge factor in my decision, as it would depend on how cheap and weither or not i could get hold of a 6800 gt.

Plus u will notice the 4 missing pipeline when AA and AF is upped as well as res.

Also the 6800 gts also have a good overclocking potential so the overclocking, plus the extra 4 pipeline will give it that edge.

it was rather a bad comparison, I think most people are comparing it because they got similar name and perform similarly.

but the truth is, they are product of two different generations.

comparing them is like comparing 6600 to 5700ultra.

6800GS should really be called something like 7600 or 7800XT.

6800GT is over 18 month old, and its price didnt come down that much from its initial 400 USD. so there is no way it can be a good buy. plus it had broken wmv9 etc.

for those who had it for a long time, just fell lucky that you have enjoy it for all this time and let this unfair comparison die.

People talk about OCing the GS but I have rarely seen a GT not do Ultra Specs 400/1100. Of course mine did 430+/1180, BFG :D

Well some people pay hundreds more for 5fps. Difference between 25fps and 30fps? Which would you rather play?
Post you best 3DMark Score and I will show you some pwnage :)

I thought it was vote for the better card not vote for the almost better cheaper card :D

    further to this arguement.

    anandtech used a PCI-E 6800GT

IIRC, original 6800GT and ultra were native AGP, bridged to PCI-E, so if that test was done on PCI-E GT vs GS, GT will be obviously be disadvantaged.

had the test been done on AGP, i m sure GT will be reversely advantaged.
