that would be a big upgrade. just check to see if your psu is enough for 1.

Well i think my psu can handle it given that the 7850 uses less power. But I will upgrade my psu if needed. I only plan to use one 7850.

at first i thought of buying another 6790 and do crossfire, but the release of 7850 made me think twice.

if you can afford a 7870 that would be about the same as a gtx580. but thats about $350

i think i will be satisfied with a 7850 and OC it. 7870 is already out of my budget. :)
    Thanks!

Like 130w or so. You could even try running two if that Phenom isnt too hard on the 12v rails lol

I can tell you that I just installed my HD7850, and it's running like a charm.
Got a BSOD with the old version ATI Tray Tools i had though..

My previous card was an HD4670, so nearly anything would be an upgrade for it.
To be honest i believe in waiting a series or two before upgrading.
The old 4670 held up like a champ until now at 1280x1024.

Either way I believe you should wait a bit before upgrading and not be hasty.
I'm sure the 6790 is no pushover..

It is a worthy upgrade since
    6790 < 6850 < 6870 < 6950

I believe the HD7850 performs between the 6950 and 6970, when OC'ed, it should match or surpass the 6970......which, itself, is definitely no slouch.

you're right. my 6790 still hold its ground even when i play BF3 and Skyrim at 1080p. and i can tell you that you are a very patient man to be able to wait that long (from 4670 to 7850). btw, did you upgrade your monitor as well? :)

Ah I knew it, PCHub's the only carrier of 78xx cards right now, even the GTX 680 and 79xx's. Oh well thanks!

    @taimat

I have a bigger screen lying around somewhere, just didn't have the power to install it yet.

I'm certain that waiting a bit more would be good.
But it depends on what kind of purchases you make, I like to buy something that will last for around 3 years. And I believe I had that with the 4670 and now i'm sure the 7850 won't let me down.

Take also into consideration that most PC games are also being developed with consoles in mind, and seeing as how PC's are more capable than consoles I think you'll be fine now..
