my gf is gonna buy a 6600gt 128mb because she dont got 500 bucks..lol is it any better then a geforce fx 5200 256mb? im sure it is but im just making sure this is her comp AMD anthlon 2100+ @ 1.6ghz (her mobo's fsb clock only goes up to 136 or something for some reason) geforce fx 5200 256mb 256 mb of ram 420 watt PSU (some unknown brand i forgot what its called) would her game slike doom3 and css be faster? she gets liek 20fps in doom3 and css around 20-30 its kinda ****ty lol
considering ur gf's rig .. the 6600GT would be a bit bottlenecked .... a 6600 would be the best ... and it would cost less than a 6600GT too....... And there will be a huge increase in fps ..... playing at high settings would just be so easy then ....
It will work and it will run much better, except she needs some ram cause 256 will cause texture loading in games at least 512 will do, I've seen them for less than $20 so its pretty cheap to upgrade.
imho a 6600GT will do just fine, i run a 6800 in my machine, which has a 1.66 GHz cpu too, but i dont mind, i can cranck up the reso and detail, and still get monstrous frames, and i love it i would recommend you get a 6600GT, and 512 ram, that way your GF wont have to worry for a long while about being able to play the newest sims expansion packs
6600gt would work just fine, but yeah bottleneck will do its worst. But then you can always upgrade later on. K7's prices are going down so yo can do that, also memory are cheaper now aswell. Shoot for 1gig pc3200. Even a cheap sempron can do you good.
Its for his gf and upgrading the comp too much would just be a waste for her, just get 512 mb of ram, 1024 if she really needs it with the 6600gt should work smooth as butter.
I went from a 5700le to the 6600Gt, and never blinked. Definite improvement. Only mildly OC'd to 575/1060 and very smooth, even in BF2. About the best (in my own opinion) for the money spent. Very decent mid-range card. Adding another matching stick of 256 RAm would also be a good idea. 512 should be enough, exceptions:BF2 (which loads 500- over a gig of RAM usage) and prollly BloodReign, or the more intensive games. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814145098 As mentioned RAM is pretty cheap now, as are 6600's. make sure you match the RAM stick to the old : Saving for a 7800Gtx and 4000 Venice.
when I first got this computer I had a 9600xt. 4 months later I switched to my current 6600gt and the performance difference is huge! @ drwngflies there is no 4000+ venice.
