I currently have a XFX 6600 GT. I am one of the lucky ones who have had no issues with the card. I am considering upgrading to a Leadtek 6800GT and moving the 6600GT to my son's Athlon 2200 with 512MB PC2700 RAM. Good move? How much will my Athlon 64 bottleneck the 6800GT? With the Athlon 2200 seriously bottleneck the 6600GT? By the way, if necessary I can upgrade the Athlon 2200 to 1 gig of RAM. I have lurked here for years and I have seen lots of good advice. Thanks in advance for your opinions.
Well both comps will bottleneck your cards so you can't get around that. The 6600 GT most likely wasn't bottlenecked on your Athlon 64 but the 6800 GT is a nice upgrade no matter what. Both cards will be great in both computers. I wouldn't worry about either one IMO. You might want to consider upgrading your sound system, though.
Yea, it just bites nowdays that it seems like anything short of an Athlon 64 4000+ will bottle neck you. So you think this would be worthwhile? My son and I both play about the same games, i.e., HL2, Halo, etc...
Pretty much any 6800GT is fine if you don't care about bundle and aren't going to overclock it. The leadtek one has a nice custom heatsink/fan if heat is an issue, although evga comes with Doom3, if you don't have that already. I personally have a Chaintech version, and it overclocks nicely and was the cheapest one at the time.
ive got an asus card, works tops for me, ive also got it running with a atlon 64 3500+ its an ultra version of the 6800 also
it will probley run fine, i once put my 6800GT in my sisters p3 733mhz comp, i could run doom 3 on it with 4fps. of coz it was running in AGP 4 tho.
leadtek, msi, bfg even if it was agp8x doom 3 would not run faster since the cpu and the ram can't deliver the card with data
It's just good customer service. And many people keep their cards longer than a year. Coupled with great reviews regarding compatability and performance of many of their cards... it's very valuable to me (and others). Lex
