    Hey,

Since i dont get an answer on the forums in belgium i am use to ill give it a try over here. Maybe we have some real pro's over here.

So first of all my rig:
    asus p5q pro
    intel core 2 quad q 9450 @3.6ghz (450 fsb, 8 x, v core 1.26250 stable) (i dont get 3.8ghz stable, even with 3.9 v core)
gpu 1: saphire 5870 vapor x toxic 2 gb edition (925/1225 deafault clocks)
gpu 2: saphire 5870 vapor c toxic 1 gb edition (875/1250 default clocks)
    4 gb ddr2 1066 ram
    1000w toughpower psu
    64 gb crucial c300 ssd
    2 x 250 gb 7200 rpm drives
    cm stacker 832 case
bunch of red ligh fans :p
    scythe mugen cpu cooler

    My problem:

My gpu loads in bf3 seems to drop under 50% on huge maps (64 player like caspian border).
So, first off all i use the latest 10.11 drivers with 11.9 cap 4. There are no more stutter problem at all. just low fps like 30-40 fps on caspian border 64 players.
In the singlple player i get 70-80% gpu loads
in small multiplayer maps i get 55-70% gpu loads
in large conquest i get 45-55% gpu load.
My settings on bf3 are all high( not ultra) and no msaa. 16x af, motion blur on and hboa.
Lowering my settings dont give me more fps on those large conquest maps.
My cpu load is 95-100% on all of those x fire tests in bf3
(My clocks in x fire are on bouth gpu's underclocked to 850/1200 like the standard 5870)

So then i tested Single gpu on the 2gb edition at 925/1225 core speed.

    Results are quinda strange.
    Cpu load 80-90%
gpu load 100% all the time in all the tests with single gpu
In the sp in get alot less fps
in the mp small maps with 16-24 players i get about the same fps. maybe a little bit less. The peaks are lower but avarage is about the same.
In the huge conquest maps i get way more fps. 40-70 fps. never drop under 40...
I used the same settings (all high).

So My conclusion would be that i have a huge cpu bottleneck but every benchmark i read about bf3 states that it is not at all cpu heavy and 2 cores give about the same results as 4 to 8 core cpu's...

Could there be an other problem i overlooked? Could there be a huge scaling problem? Could it be that the 2 gb and 1 gb 5870 in x fire cuases problems?
(in other games (bf vietnam) i do get 80-100% load on bouth gpu's).

anyone else with about same rig can give me some numbers?

I am thinking to upgrade cpu, mobo and ram but first i wanna be sure if that will fix my problem. I was thinking about upgrading to:
    i5 2500k
    8 gb ddr ram 1600 mhz 9-9-9-24 (2x4gb)
    ASUS P8Z68-V PRO

Is that a good upgarde? I wanna oc the cpu. Or can i get a cheaper mobo and memory whom will give me same results?

Or should I concider the buldozer FX amd cpu's?

Or maybe not to forget? Do i have an other problem and will the upgrade make nu difference in bf3 and would i be better of with an other solution?

    Sorry about the long post.

    Tnx in advance
    Toki

What driver do u use ? and no, u shouldnt consider bulldozer.

I believe your problem is something with your chipset, P45 doesn´t scale really well, not as good as X58 does for example. I think you´ll have a good boost if you upgrade to the i5 2500K, but the main factor seems to be regardin the chipset more than the Cpu itself imo.

btw, my mate had the same gpu setup but i7 cpu and mobo. In sp we get the same fps but un mp large conquest he gets double!

I hate that 'bottleneck' word !! I am using a 3 years old cpu with my 5770. Before i bought this card, asked here, lots of guys asnwered me ' that would be a huge bottleneck' .. But i can find now that some games r cpu demanding some r gpu, some games r both. And with some driver u never reach ur 99% gpu use. Me for an example, i can play most games with 99% gpu use and my cpu use never reach 100%(except metro,bf3), always use 70-80% cpu. U should try a good/proper driver(i am using 11.10prew 3). U should try 2-3 drivers, and find out which can perform better for u.So i think ur cpu is good enough for ur cards but choice is ur's.

    I have the same issue.

My setup: gtx560 sli, Q9450 @ 3.7 Ghz, xfx 780i, 4 gb ddr2 dominator. My gpu load is slightly better than yours, but not at all 100%. On other forums they told me it's a driver issue and I should wait for the new drivers to be released with updated sli profiles (i'm waiting anyway... for the X79 setup to be released! :)

I oc'd my Q9450 from 3,4 to 3.7 and this made things slightly better. +5-10% load on my gpu's. Now they mostly operate between 60 & 70% load. Cpu +95% or max.. However, I'm still thinking I'm missing something here..

btw, my bf3 settings are almost the same as yours, all high, msaa2x, postaa high, af 4x, motion blur off. Average 60-80fps, max 90, min 50-55.

Just upgrade to what you said in your post, forget that bulldozer crap.

Dual cores will bottleneck at 580 a bit. See http://www.techspot.com/review/448-battlefield-3-beta-performance/page7.html

Still, your 775 chip at 3.6 should not be bottle necking your crossfire setup as much as it seems to. I would first look elsewhere before considering a cpu upgrade to try sort out your issue.

I owned a q9450 and it's a snotty cpu, u should be ok. Maybe reinstall with latest gfx drivers, but if your looking for more FPS than join the club..

    Look at my config
    I run a q9450 and a 4870 trifire
i have no problems whatsoever ,
id recommend yo get a stable >= 3.2Ghz OC and do a complete clean install

    I also have 5870 in xfire but I do have a I7 920 @ 4.2Ghz.

With ultra setting (With only AA Defered on 0) 1080p, I get 40 tot 150 fps with a average of 60 + fps. The driver that I use is 11.10 the one that has been released for the beta.

    It is a bottleneck.

    My Q9650 @ 4.18ghz is bottlenecking my 5970.

CPU @ 100% CPU usage and 5970 @ 60% GPU usage in 64 player Caspian in open heavy areas. My lowest fps is 45. Average is about 70.

    Running
    1920x1200
    Hight textures
    Ultra everything else
    Low Post AA
    2x Deffered AA
    No Motion Blur
    16x af

Need a high clocked (4ghz+) i5 or i7 to max out the 5970 especially when I start overclocking the 5970. At the moment I don't bother overclocking it as it doesn't increase the MIN fps as those are CPU bound. No point increasing my fps in buildings sky high when it is exactly the same outside.
