I have an ATI 5870 card which I think is still a great card but was wondering if it is really worth it to get an Nvidia 570 GTX card or even 580 for an upgrade. Thanks.
GTX570 is only slightly faster than HD5870. It is however more power hungry and possibly hotter too. GTX580 runs considerably hotter and requires even more power, while being about 20-40% faster depending on the game. If you think you need that sort of performance increase, go for it but it's not exactly cheap. You would get better performance with 5870 crossfire though. I think 3DMark Vantage tends to provide a pretty good idea of the average performance differences between cards. If you look at this chart: http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-review/19 You'll see 5870 is pretty close to GTX570, GTX580 is on par 5970. 5870 XF would be slightly faster than 5970 I think.
I would not suggest you to change 5870 unless you want any one of below features: 1. dp2.0 2. HDMI 1.4a 3. Physx (u can always buy a low end nvidia card and make it as dedicated physx card) For more graphics power, you can always crossfire another 5870. 5870's price is going to be lesser when 6970 releases. Thats added advantage for you
If it was me I'd say no a 5870 should be easily able to run anything you throw at it ATM with good image quality settings. If your upgrading for future titles, id still say no, again why bother? spend the dosh when these future titles come out not now (and get something even faster) I think these high end GPUs are really wasted ATM good for getting high benchies and maxing Metro out... (which is a pretty poor game IMO) saying that its your money if you want to give team green ago do it! you'll also be able to enable PhysiX settings in a few games. I'm waiting for the 6970 ~ 6870 pricing before I move on a new card. And of course I'll consider Nvidia after Ati release pricing :nerd:
This may be not quite on topic but I have been getting tearing when I play Borderlands on my system. I don't believe this is a driver issue as I have had this for the last couple of versions... Any help would be greatly appreciated
if you have the money buy a gtx 580, if you don't then buy another 5870 and crossfire them , going from 5870 to gtx 570 is not worth it enable Vsync
i wouldnt go for the 580 just yet... the prices of the 5870s have gone down a fair amount and you'll see a much larger performance gain with another 5870.
