Since my 5970 died. I have decided to buy a 580 and then add another when i can afford. This seems to be a decent idea, was just going to ask. Should i buy a model for say £ 400 and oc it to the models that cost like 500 max? or wait and buy one of the ready oc'd cards. I have never oc'd a graphics card :(

i would say go for the one with the best aftermarket cooler attached.

so asus directcu, msi twin frozr, gigabyte windforce 3x, sparkle calibre x580 (i think galaxy also have a card with the accelero cooler too), etc.

the only reason i'd go evga is if i were planning to watercool because of their warranty. but if youre planning to aircool, why pay extra for a reference card and then pay more for an aftermarket cooler when you could just buy a card that already has one fitted at a similar price to the evga card.

on top of that, if you dont plan to keep your card for longer than two years, then theres no point to lifetime warranty.

1 is evga, 1 is galaxy. these cards tear through everything. I came from 1 580 and a qx9650 @4ghz the difference is like night and day even with sli disabled. I bought 1 card first and another later on when I could afford it

^ Yes, it beats the Asus GTX 580 DirectCU II in temps @ stock clocks (while its fan noise level is no different). Its custom PCB design / parts choice is undeniably the best there is. The only thing I still don't like about it though is the fact it dumps part of its hot air inside your case, which becomes a bit of a problem if you use SLI and overclock high. The Gigabyte GV-N580 Ultra Durable is somewhat less noiseless if you plan to overclock high. On LN2, the Asus was able to remain stable @ 1519 MHz core. lol

same like me bro. i came from a q9550 @4ghz and SLI gtx 580. After switching mobo and cpu now is light year faster. I actually went from 50fps to 88fps in metro2033. Come on BF3 i'm ready
