I'm looking to upgrade for bf3 but i'm contemplating between a 570 sli set up or a single 580, I have gotten a good life out of my 295(got it day1 release). I run a 1080p resolution and im sure the 570 sli set up will run bf3 maxed out fine, im just not sure if the 580 will hiccup at all, if anyone has some experience with similar system with either set ups from the beta let me know. Right now if i get a single 580 i will save some money right out and have option to sli later when needed, if i get 570 sli i will be able to handle everything for a while. One of my friends says i would be fine with just one 570 and then sli later if needed, that would save the most money and get most value i would believe, im just not sure one 570 will handle 1080p on ultra. any opinions thanks!
Both cards will do just fine, just use the Post AA FXAA option instead of the performance killing MSAA option.
I wouldn't go from a 295 to a single 580. With the 295 you have got 480 shader processor and 580 has 512 shader processor so it isn't a big jump. Yeah, you are all on one GPU so no SLI issues but it isn't worth it to ugprade that way in my opinion. Rumors suggest that the special Ultra setting in BF3 recommends a 580 SLI or greater graphics configuration. I'd say you're on the right track with the 570 SLI.. you're going to get close to 580 SLI performance and some of the newer 570s have more VRMs now for better OCing.. or keep the 295 if you're satisfied (but obviously you're not).
i see you have very similar rig and a 480 which is arguably close to a 580 performance, what type of fps were you seeing at what resolution in the beta ?
1080p, all ultra, Post AA High, No MSAA SSAO (Not a fan of HBAO.) 50-60 fps on Caspian Border average. More than happy with it.
