I remember when 256 Mb cards came out and everyone thought that there was no real use for that much memory. I wonder if ppl will think that to be true of the 512 Mb cards. I won't say never in this case. Anything's possible, especially with Ultra Quality on Doom 3 recommending a 512 Mb card.
wow 8x 32mb on each side eh! 16 rams wow.. lol
lol, go check the nvidia section. everyone's already bitching that 512mb is 'useless' with only 256bit memory bandwith.
Well... it is a bit atm... not that I would say no now
must see benchmarks...
If you're putting together a new computer now and dont like upgrading it, then this card might get you ready for the next 5 years.
Thats some hot stuff, now all we need is a game that can bring out its full potential...
next 5 years lol no way in 5 years this card will be like an fx 5200. And the 512 wont have any better performance htan the 256 even ati said it themselves. basically just for doom 3 rite now.
Yeah, its all a battle on who can get a 512mb card first... even nVidia (OEM) is uping their 6800 Ultras... More info: [here].
I read a really good statement somewhere here. Nvidia and ATI don't actually expect many people to buy their highest end cards. Its all about bragging rights. If you can say you have the fastest graphics card in the world, the midrange version of that card will sell better.
Marketing is a powerful thing.
yep, that's true.
ATM only doom 3 will use all the memory on that card but in the future more games will need more memory maybe not the fulll 500 but i could see 300-400 being needed soon
to tell you the truth i doubt there would be any difference in ultra quality in doom3 with a 6800U 512MB card than with a 6800U 256MB card
That's some crazy sheet right thurr...
there will be a difference between the 256 and 512 mb in doom 3 ultra quality. as it is right now a 256mb card will usualy stutter once in a while on ultra quality.
Everquest 2 also has a setting for 512 mbs of ram. When I try using that settings I get crap for fps. So games will keep coming out that use that much.
It is good but its mem bandwidth is keeping its potential back.
True, it uses 256-bit like the 256MB version, so you won't be able to really use it to it's potential right now. Maybe in the production model they'll increase it. Otherwise, erm, it seems like a waste of $$$.
It has sooo ugly huge fan... Does Ati have little heat prob
