Normally you'll see 1.7-8 times the performance with a new architecture compared to the first high end GPU of the previous architecture...and it's now rumored to be 2 times faster (due to those higher than expected clocks apparently), at least for AMD.

    Catapults FTW.

I'll have to upgrade when new stuff comes out. Not because I have any performance issues but because there's one system that's ageing really quickly (I'm doing component swapping with my brother). His system doesn't run BF3 well, even at lowest.

For their sake I hope so.

I want better competition between the two companies. Before it was about a few frames here and there, IQ, or what game engine you played in OpenGL or DX.

Now its more of a core race, between both GPU and CPU companies.

ATI always seem to come out with really fast, but equally priced products. Then just around the corner Nvidia come out with something quite a bit faster but they price it waayy too high. Plus, for most of the time, Nvidia's drivers and Sli performance outweighs ATI's by a lot also.

I want ATI to sort their act out and bring us a beastly single GPU that can rival even the GTX680 (when its released), price it very aggressively, and have some kick ass drivers ready for Crossfire configs.

This would get me back on the red team for sure. Plus as the company I work for now has gone into Administration, the future for me looks pretty bleak in terms of money. So I need all the "agressive" pricing I can get :p

I think it will be, well AMD is a good year ahead nvidias Kepler

AMD6900 series refresh could have already been true SI but 28nm process wasn't ready yet.

So Nvidia card that has 800MHz core on 40nm, on 28nm 45% improved clock speed will result in 1160MHz core or shader speed of 2320MHz

So my predictions of 680GTX been equal or faster than SLi 580's looks highly possible

Consider that the 590GTX is 750$, and two 580's is nearly 1,000$, imagine the price of the 680GTX if what you say is true. 800$ minimum at release.

    Can't even imagine the 690GTX.

It would actually cost less (depending on the transistor count) than the current GPUs.

It'll be the price of a GTX590, silly.

    It'll be the price of a GTX590?

    With probably 40% more performance?

I doubt that, the GTX590 would then have to drop to at least half of what it is to make that viable.

    590 will EOL

    just like older generations

    285 an 295 GTX

    then 400 series came out

No, the die shrink will see a 45% increase in clock speed...we're not even touching Kepler yet. Kepler should be roughly TWICE as fast because 28nm clocks a little higher than expected (assuming AMD aren't alone on this)

well things we know of 680GTX

it has 50% more cuda cores than 580GTX

it's possible 45% faster in shader speed than 580GTX

    then the unknown architecture improvements

So wait, Were supposed to believe AMD hype now?

What is this, I don't even...

GTX590 price has no effect at all on the 600 series. All 400/500 parts will go EOL or have already.

Also people forget that if AMD ends up delivering better performance you better damn believe they will charge you more money. They don't sell their crap cheap because they are a charity. It's because that's the only way they can compete right now.

We are talking about their GPU department not CPU department. The GPU department has steadily been improving and has always competed.
