I am curoius about the 4 in 1 drivers. I am using the following:

AMD 1.4GH 266fsb CPU
iWill KA266-r Motherboard, Ali Magick chipset
Gainsward Geforece3

Will the 4 in 1 drivers help me?

My current drivers show as: 5.13.01 1290. I realize that the 1290 is the 12.90 Detonator. I do see some people are using drivers that show (3dMark 2001) as 4.13.01 XXXX

Thanks
Bill

     Hello Bill,

I dont think I'll be of much help, but I'll do what I can until one of these younger fella's turns who'll be able to offer you some expert advice. I know nothing of the I-Will mobo except it seems pretty popular over your side of the ditch. Here in the UK it's not that common. It appears from your comment "will the 4 in 1 drivers help me" that you may have a problem Bill. If you have, you need to be very specific about it and also be a little more precise with your sys. specs. The more info you put over, the better the advice will be in return.

If it was just a general question then I think there are basically three shools of thought on the subject. One, is that you should always download the latest drivers as this will keep your system running at optimum efficiency, Two, would subscribe to the theory "why fix what ain't broke, whilst the third might say " I enjoy having a tweak and twiddle, so what?". So I suppose the answer is Bill, do your thing.

A PC has drivers for everything, and the 12.90's that you refer to are the latest leaked beta drivers for Nvidia videocards, ie your Geforce 3. Because of the complexities of a PC and the vagaries of the manufacturers, it doesn't always follow that the latest driver releases are an improvement to your actual system. Yet they may suit somebody else's just fine. Also, to improve does not necessarily mean increase. There are times when certain aspects of a system have to be backed off to show improvement.

Which is where the 3DMark2000 and 3DMark2001 come into it. These are pretty much standard benchmarking systems and provide a means of comparing your system after you have made alterations to it, to it's performance before the mods, to see if there has been an improvement or not. They are free downloads and if you're interested, then let me know and I or one of the other guys around will post the info as to where it can be found.

I see from your profile Bill, that you are retired, if it's not too disrespectful would you mind if I asked how old you are. I'm 55 which I suppose makes me a silver surfer as they call it. There maybe a bit of snow on the roof but the fire inside is still glowing brightly. Take care Bill, as I say, hopefully one of the young'uns'll be along directly and they'll sort you out. If not give me a call. All the best, Allen

I have had so many problems with the KA266-R I don't even want to get into them entirely. If you are having USB problems in 9x, try disabling the parallel ports and com ports in the bios. I had a hell of a time installing win2k on my box, to fix this problem go to http://www.ami.com/support/prodsearch.cfm?prodid=110 and download the NT certified drivers (don't get the WHQL 2000 drivers, they don't work), the NT drivers have everything even Whistler stuff. Iwill didn't have anything that worked the last time I checked. This board has been a nightmare, but hopefully it will finally work like it's supposed to now. Good luck.
