Which ones are faster in OpenGL & D3D, not just DOOM3.

Have anyone done a comparision... or are there 4.9 vs 4.8 benchmarks somewhere?

i think they are the same driver.
    i could be wrong.
i hear they have the same dates.

the 4.8s were leaked by asus or some one.
then Ati actually releases the 4.9 betas.

ive tried the 4.9s on my system and i actually get BETTER performance out of the DNA 4.7s.

I've read that the 4.8 /4.9 's are a bit unstable - what's to stop us using 4.7, but use the ogl dll from 4.8/4.9?

(and will anyone post a link to JUST the ogl.dll, rathe than the whole shebang?)

Here is how to "Rip" the atioglxx.dll:

    1) Download the 4.9b hotfix.

    2) Let it set itself up in a folder on your HD.

    3) Hit "Cancel" when the install diallogue box comes up (hit "Yes" when the confirmation box pops up).

    4) Use Windows Explorer and find the following folder:

    C:\ATI\wxp-w2k-DOOM-HOTFIX-8-05-040727a-017086E\Driver\2KXP_INF\B_17036

    5) Find the file "atioglxx.dl_".

    6) Open it up with Winzip.

    7) Extract the "atioglxx.dll" to:

    C\Windows\system32\

    8) Reboot (just to make sure).

I would highly recommend installing the entire package, however, just because they might have even made some D3D and DX9c enhancements as well.

Well I installed the 4.9b's last night and was playing CoD for hours .. It looked and played awsome.. but then again it did for me with the 4.7's. :)

Well... I just tested both of them with 3DMark03. I got 4233p. with 4.8B and 4227p. with 4.9B. Doesn`t differ much. My best result in 3DMark03 is 4347p.

I believe they only altered the OpenGL driver [Hence why it says BETA - Doom 3 hotfix] so running 3Dmark is hardly going to be a good indication of performance.
A lot of people have been posting their Doom 3 benches for 4.7 to 4.9b there is a large difference between previous versions and 4.9b.

I don't notice a difference, if any, from the 4.8's. They're both very good imo and significantly better than the soft-modded 4.7 Dna's I was using before. I don't bother any more with benchies - I want real game performance with decent quality and these drivers fit the bill.

d3d decreased a little but opengl looks to run abit better but cant be sure as it seems to be so close and im gessing from playing the game homeworld which isnt entirely opengl.
