Does this increase in 3d marks actually give you a performance boost in games tho, if so how many FPS are we talking here?

Reason I ask is I read a review where the overclocked to 576/1200 then ran Half Life 2. They said they got 2-3 FPS increase at lower resolutions and only less than 1 at 1280 * 1024.
    That was with a PCI-E Inno3d 6600GT.

Does anyone here have some in game benchmarks to show the difference in performance they get when overclocking?

    Thanks.

You will need a very efficient VGA cooler. I am using the Zalman VF700Cu.

My max overclock is 606/1210 but I am using 600/1200 for benchmarking.

Good job! I am pretty sure my XP system is bottle-necking the GPU.

hehehe...well all this overclocking is only for braggin rights..i dont think its wise to play games at insane clock speeds..well for those who dont get 4k..its okay im sure ur card could go that far..just a matter of bravery in overclocking :)

Bragging rights? Yeah, that's what overclocking is all about but you are right. I don't play games at that clock speeds. I play games at, guess what speeds? 500/ 1000! That's enough for me.

Anyway, overclocking is not just a matter of bravery but also how much "dole" you can afford to fork out if your card got fried.

Then again, .... I love doing it!

I only barely just cracked 4k in 3Dmark05, but that is from better cooling and a higher o/c. I used to run this card at 530/1100 and could not go higher without problems. But with a PCI mounted fan directed at the exposed Albatron HSF(plus a case fan next to GPU HSF), forcing about 3-4 times the airflow through it i can now o/c stable at 570/1200. It's just friggin loud now. Synthetic benchmarks like 3dmark05 etc may cop a lot of flak because they aren't "playable games", but they serve well to analyze how much gain you get out from an o/c on your system. By hitting the 4k mark in 3dmark05 from an o/c has to only mean that games will run with a higher framerate, as the results show below getting the max o/c out of card can mean upping resolution, detail etc a few steps more which is great. I can now run HL2 at 1600x1200 8xAF at decent playable framerates and Farcry at 1280x1024 8xAF smooth as well, thats good for a 6600GT.

    Benchmarks of AGP Albatron 6600GT
    500/900(default) VS 570/1200(max o/c)

    3Dmark05(500/900) -3393
    3Dmark05(570/1200) -4001

    Farcry 1280x1024 HQ-FW - Very High Settings 8xAF - Fraps
Random Outdoor Scene(save point, identical position)
    500/900 -45fps
    570/1200 -53fps

    HL2 1600x1200 HQ-FW - Max Settings 8xAF - Fraps
Random Outdoor Scene(save point, identical position)
    500/900 -50fps
    570/1200 -57fps

So o/c'ing does give u a nice little gain on newer games and a lot higher gain on older games. Do It, Do It.
