So it is real then, but as you say 20gb is pointless for gaming at this stage.

I'd sure like to have 20gb 3080ti instead of 12gb.

If the 3080 (Ti or whatever) with 20GB had been available within the first 1-3 months around Ampere launch, I'd have gotten that instead of the 3090 Strix I luckily stumbled upon at a local electronics retailer for below MSRP in November. The regular 3080 had too little VRAM for my taste, being a 4K maxed details (when possible) gamer as well as needing more VRAM for work.

Tell that to games like Deathloop with Raytracing enabled. ;-)
Some other games (although granted, there aren't many) benefit from higher VRAM amounts as well, especially at maxed details at high resolutions (3840x2160 +). I think 16GB would be a good VRAM amount to have in general for the more high-end titles, especially ones that will be released in the nearer future.

In Doom Eternal just enabling raytracing vram usage slider goes up from 6.8gb to 7.8gb and thats on 1080p.

I tried this out for myself at 4k and at the very highest settings and Raytracing on MSI Afterburner was reporting the full 10Gb being used. I was locked at 117fps using RTSS to limit frames. I'm sure it never used to be like this on previous patches. It's still very smooth without stuttering, but interesting nonetheless.

Yeah, but you're an extreme case at 8k :D

Turning the rt on takes around 1.2gb vram extra so if you have 3070 8gb thats a hard pill to swallow when ultra nightmare textures already take 7gb. Dont tell me to reduce the texture quality becouse it should not be the case with 900euros gpu.
