Is this ok that a power connector doing more than 150W at single connector ?
I mean looking at the picture it is well balanced or not really and It can be dangerous ?
Remember that I read a single 8 pin connector is rated at max 150W.
TUF RTX 3080 , RM850x (2021)
I ran a 2x8pin with 650w powerdraw for 2years. 780ti classified.
Notes on GeForce 516.94 Driver Performance
From the charts, we see no significant differences in graphics performance between drivers for both the hybrid and non-synthetic tests using our RTX 3080 and RTX 2080 Ti.
For the game benchmarks, most games show no significant differences when we move to 516.94 drivers from the 516.79 driver version using both GPUs.
theres +-5% tolerance allowed
One question is not really necessary thermal pads on VRM ?
Because I can see some Zotac 3080 that doesn't have thermal pads on the VRM, only for memory.
I tough that was essential....
I wouldnt want or recommend a card without well cooled VRMs, even if it was not to be overclocked.
Approx 5% of power passing through a VRM under normal heat/power conditions is lost to heat.
ie they are around 95% efficient.
Given their size, thats a considerable amount of heat and no matter how high a temp they can be operated at, the solder and surrounding components are also vulnerable to accelerated wear.
I think its disgraceful to not effectively cool VRMs on high power devices or where the VRMs are in a high temp environment
Maybe I wasant very clear I not talking about mosfets, im talking about chockes.
And I can see all the FE 3080/3090, also the ZOTAC and the most impresive one the Asus ROG StriX comes without thermal pads on the chockes. ( ROG STRIX ) only have pads on the back line, but the first line of chockes, the front one it dosent come with any thermal pad...
So I guess if those cards dosent come with pads, it is not really necesarry
I have on me RTX 3080 MSI Gaming Z 12GB and there is one positive and one negative thing about it.
negative: at default fan speed (firmware speed) it goes up to 83ºC .... using MSI AB I can manage to get around 72-75ºC max
positive: Im not sure if is normal but I almost got 3080 ti performance, the GPU clock show me max of 2070 MHz while this card is rated at 1815 MHz (looks like the nvidia boost on this unit is very huge)
Graphics Score PortRoyal 12671
Graphics Score TimeSpy 19338
1) So are those score on normal range of 3080 12GB ?
2) Also wanted to ask it is dangerous for the card to running at 83ºC on GPU core ?
3) At what speed thermal trhottling starting ?
Editing to add the all yhise temperatures are in room with 33C ambient....so maybe this is the reason why high temps
Wow temps are high. I have an LHR MSI Gaming Z 12Gb running at 2000Mhz 4K no higher than 60c in the most demanding games....It's warm here in UK today but when it was 40c a couple of weeks back I rose to a meagre 65c.
What's the airflow like in your case? I'm using a Meshify Compact and the airflow is excellent even with barely audible, low rpm fan settings.
Well I have 33C ambiet temp if this say something..
Are you running it with the default fan speed ? Letting the card to control it ?
What case are you in?
No I'm using the default curve in Afterburner, it's barely audible unless i press my ear to the case. Doesn't go higher than 60% usually apart from that 1 day in the heatwave where it was 40c, then it rose appropriately to 65% and was still extremely quiet.
Have you checked the memory and hotspot temps?
Yes those are balanced, VRAM tj max 88ºC with default speed, hot spot was 91ºC when core was on 83ºC all this on default
With manual fan curved VRAM tj max 82ºC hot spot 86ºC and core 75ºC
I have very good airflow and case, this is not the problem, problem here it may be that right now i have 35ºC on my desktop-room, then it is trowing 390W max ....I guess this is why...or I may be wrong I dont know
CoolerMaster H500P Mesh with 3x Corsair 140ML setting at 1800rpm that trow "fresh air" LMAO yes 35ºC fresh air...and rear anotehr Corsair 140ML taht get hot air out of the case, but at only 1100rpm (so I will change this to sync with front ones)
But are you sure you talking about 35ºC ambient tempo at your room cuz if noot this discussion make 0 sense.
Ohh nice, I also got 12gb gaming Z.
Temps can get higher but fan speed is low.
But with afterburner voltage editor it's easy to fix.
Guys if you run Quake II RTX, can you hold 2000mhz after a few mins or you hit power limit? Anyway I really like this card, really decent noise and temps. Especially after having a PowerColor Red Devil Ultimate 6900xt.
and what are your temps at default fan speed (without after burner) and what ambient temp ?
I already said what the temps were when it was 40c. We have no air con or anything so temps inside (ambient) were actually a fraction higher at 42c. Anyway, good luck sorting it. If your airflow is good then the card is a hot runner, simple as. My card goes up to 390w as well so that is not the answer/reason as far as I'm concerned.
@ default mine get close to yours aswell between 77-78c but with a higher fan curve @ 60% fanspeed it doesnt go over 70-71 c. I prefer silent and a bit more heat then more noise and better cooling. I have the 10 gb version btw X version.
Not sure if bug is 3080 specific but SMAA doesn't seem to be working correctly. Ultra setting won't stick and High/Medium looks the same. FSR also looks the same as SMAA which I'm suspicious about.
