Undervolting works great for the 3080. In 10-15 mins you can get a nice cut on temps and W without losing performance.

Got mine at 1950MHz with 0.925V, dont remember the exact numbers but was around 10ºC cooler and 50-60W less.

I just got the EVGA 3070ti via Newegg shuffle. So does that mean I can join the step up queue for a 3080? I’m a little confused on if you can step up to cards that are already out or if it’s only newly released cards after you buy one.

It's for cards that are already out.

I haven't had an EVGA card in a while, but as far as I recall you can step up to higher tier (price) of any cards that are released until your step-up window expires, including those that have already been released when you bought the card.

Awesome thanks guys. Worked out pretty well for me then. Only payed $70 over MSRP for a bundled PSU and will only have to drop another $80 to step up to the card I wanted in the first place. I’m sure it will take a while but at least I have something good now to tide me over. That 980 ti just isn’t cutting it anymore.

Does anyone know if EK backplates installed on already water-cooled 3080 make things worse or better?
Sometimes I touch the black plate in gaming and it's the hottest thing in the case!!
I have the very basic EVGA 3080 XC3 Black, no FTW etc etc
Some people say it can cause coilwhine, which I have in abundance.

i dont know about your first question but all 3080/3090 have very hot memories even at idle, but it is fine while you dont stress it with some mining stuff. The best way to keep it always safe is to improve your case airflow.
Also check your hotspot and memory temps with GPU Z.

I'm running an EK Backplate and waterblock on my Palit 3080 Gaming Pro, memory temps are 34 degrees idle and max around 42 degrees under load, Hot spot is 42 degrees under load as well.

Anyone else have the MSI Ventus 3x RTX 3080 OC card. Wondering what the optimal settings for temps and performance.

Are you having bad temps at first place?

My 1080ti died so I had to fork out the scalper bucks for a 3080. I got an MSI Gaming Z Trio off Amazon from a 3rd party seller. It showed up in 2 days! This thing is massive. Makes my 1080ti look tiny. So far I am at 23C at idle right now. Highest temp recorded with Afterburner, 53C. This model is rated at 1830MHz but I am getting a max reading of 2010MHz as of now without any overclocking.

It's paired up with a 770K at 5GHz so not getting the full potential while gaming. Waiting for stock/prices to get back to normal some day before upgrading CPU and MB.

I'm curious how the core clock ends up being faster than the advertised speed. Most cards go up in price as the clock speed increases but even the lower rated cards exceed the advertised rating. My 1080ti was the same.

“Starting with our GTX 600 series and later, every application and game runs at a guaranteed, minimum base clock speed. If there’s extra power available, a Boost Clock is enabled, increasing clock speeds until the graphics card hits its predetermined Power Target. This dynamic clock speed adjustment is controlled by GPU Boost, which monitors a raft of data and makes real-time changes to speeds and voltages several times per second, maximizing performance in each and every application.”

basically as long as the card is staying within the power limit it will boost, but it based on a bunch of different limits as to how high it will go, power limit, temp, load, voltage reliability and it will boost dynamically.

It's started :( VRAM issue already? (4k only).

    -> https://wccftech.com/far-cry-6-pc-r...am-to-load-high-resolution-textures-properly/

"The report states that Far Cry 6 PC comes with an HD Texture Pack which weighs in at 35 GB. The HD Texture pack is stated to require at least 11-12 GB of VRAM to function properly but it looks like even the high-end GeForce RTX 2080 Ti couldn't load these textures properly.
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3080 only packs in 10 GB of VRAM and while it has memory compression techniques to conserve bandwidth and capacity, that doesn't apply here for both high-end cards.
In fact, the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3090 might be the only graphics cards that will be able to run the texture pack due to their higher VRAM capacity."

IMhO nV will release fix for this in next driver, it's not 8k or 16k texture pack alright :) just good old 4k....

Wow. I didn't think we would see any VRAM complications this soon. It is very possible we will see our 3000 series cards begin to choke sooner than later. High res texture packs with enhanced visuals on future games will need more than video memory to run at pinnacle display levels. Higher clocks and new architecture will be needed.

Dudes and Dudettes......I'll just have to turn my res or settings down a notch. :p
