Suddenly the 860€ i paid for the 3080 don't look so bad. Scalpers and miners are the doom of us all... no gpus, no laptops lol

The £660 i paid for 2080ti a week before 30 series launch seems like a good deal also (had £770 set aside for nice 3080 but seen the brewing crap-storm ahead and decided to swerve)

Had to do a ghetto cooling so that in mining and 4K gaming mode, the VRAM of my Palit RTX Gamingpro (non-oc) do not exceed 91c

Wow. Haven’t seen such a mod in at least a decade, maybe more
I’d bet there’s a nicer looking and maybe more efficient way to do that...
What’s up with all the fans around the card?

I cannot find a nice mounting for that delta fan thus, I used a double sided tape to attach it on the bottom of the card . Apparently due to the enormous space of Meshify 2 XL, the NF-A14 iPPC-3000 is not enough without having to really push it at 3000 RPM. Thus, I had to install another fan after it so I can set both at 2,115 rpm . So far the noise doesn't bother me as I sit 7 feet away from my 55 inch Q60T monitor

Would love to go hard core with watercooling though but I cannot afford to lose the warranty thus, have to settle with ghetto cooling. I must say, the combination of Fujipoly-XR 1.5mm and Thermal Pad APT 2560 and Thermalright TF8 did transfer the heat off the backplate efficiently as the aluminum heatsink became toasty to touch. As for the delta fan at the bottom, it really did blow an enormous amount of air to help that tiny Noctua 80mm fan XD

Enormous space could be the problem. As weird as it may sound, but I’ve had better results with clear and directed airflow usually.
My 3 case fans don’t exceed 1000rpm under load and still have no problem at all with the heat of the card. I’m using a tiny Jonsbo UMX-4 case currently, which sucks in air from the bottom and pushes it out on top.
Even these cards really don’t need water cooling anymore.

    lol, my kinda mod.
You'll get a better result removing the pads and placing the heatsink directly on the back of the card with paste between.
I considered similar with my 3090 just cos I dont like 94C temps on anything but my card is vertically mounted and it would slide off.
So I just use a 230mm fan blowing air past the card.

3090 should be a different animal, sort of, with its RAM on the back of the card.

Currently, I haven’t even felt the urge to repaste my card. Not what I would’ve expected!

Whoah you got a really good one then. My aorus xtreme 3080 is a total dog****. Vram temps are rising well over 100 degrees while gaming (ambient temperature 17 degrees + good airflow) and my idle vram temps are 66 degrees... My card has also terrible coil whine and cant really OC it much... Really unsatisfied with gigabyte/aorus. Will be my first and last product from them.

Faulty card, send it back for a replacement (direct to Gigabyte I suggest for a faster turnaround).
Ram that hot will throttle your gaming.

I have the 3090 version, max temp on ram is 94C with Prime95.
Gaming is much less, cant remember what but I will check if you want.

Remember do not do any GPU mining on that card to make your 1200 Euros back. LOL I J/K get that card for free, put it to work mining if you have not already. RTX 3080 makes a fair bit of cash quick.

Anyone else with MSI 3080 gaming trio x have a custom fan curve suggestion? I feel like mine is a little overkill and am too lazy to fool with it today. :D
