i kinda found a work around... once you exit the console, and you get a blank screen (or black screen, what ever) press alt-f4 (the close command) and the menu will come back, works for me...
oh well.. first game i ran after install was counter-strike.. =P ran better and no more ESC bug, im happy

They work fine for me 2 I got exactly the same score on 3dmark 2001SE that i had when i used the moded 3.2 with a bit of oc so i guess they r good, i also noticed a big increase on fps in dragothic (i think that's the OpenGL test right?). But i still have the same problem with Vice City
3.4s Finally got em!! just done add/remove to remove me old drivers and then just installed these seemed to go in ok everythings there smartgart and what not tried a couple of games work fine like me old ones really i to noticed a big increase in fps in the dragothic demo on 3d marks to plus the nature one question though it says when u install them after it restarts it will do a test that lasts less than a minute if it doesnt respond just restart again and it will continue but mine seemed to just load windows when it restarted didnt see any sign of a test unless it did do it i dont know just on my old drivers 3.2s when i did a proper reinstall of windows then installed my 3.2s on a restart i got a grey box message on screen in middle and i thought funny never done that b4 as this is my first time with ati as ive always had geforce range then found out the grey box message was a test it was doing just thought these 3.4s might have had a test message or something at restart just to let u know its doing the test but as i say it just seemed to load windows so can anybody say if they got a test message or anything to indicate a test minor point i know seen as they seem to work ok with no problems but i would like them perfect so any feedback on this would be great if i have to do a full re install then thats not a problem if u are supposed to get some sort of test message :cheers:
doh! well nevermind well rich guy, mine didnt seem to run any tests wither and i dont even remember a grey textbox. oh and in the future please include som commas and fullstops.
Ok, did a reinstall of winxp pro and dx9. Cat3.4 3Dmark01 = 14838 Cat3.2 3Dmark01 ~ 14500 HL bug fixed! Ok now I'm happy ...
The funniest thing Cat. 3.2 3d mark 2001 = 15,821 3d mark 2003 = 5,163 Cat 3.4 2001 = 15,520 2003 = 5,520 isn't that weird. Same clock frequecies as stated in profile. Only difference is drivers.
First time installed tha 3.4...somehow the d3d drivers wounlnt work (counldn run 3dmark , ati demos) so I unstalled them and reintalled them...and then it worked (finally). Being with Nvidia from the 23.11 to the 40.42s, I never had a problem with driver installation. Oh well, I hope it will be the last time it happends BTW, I droped 100 in 2001SE and gained 100 in 2003.

I tried these drivers, score in 3dmark 01 and 03 seemed to go down a little bit, but all my games run much better, and less crashing. The AA looks smoother too.
Finally broke the 5000 mark with 3dmark03 with the new drivers, getting 5080, and im not overclocked in any dept, a jump of nearly 100 points, how bizarre P4 2.67 1gig ram Asus P4C800 Deluxe (I love this board) Radeon 9700 Pro (Crucial) WinXP Pro
