Guys, right now im at 1150 MHz on the GPU with 1.25v. With a custom fan profile the max temp under load is 70c. Is that a good overclock ? Should i go higher than that? I'm not planning on OC'ing the memory, cause i think it's not worth it, or am i wrong?

    Thanks for any answer. :)

For me with my 7970Ghz 1150 is about the max I can get with them too. I was hoping for at least 1200mhz but it's never been stable for me.

Since your 280x is basically the same i'd expect similar OCability with your card.

In saying that, my 7970's are bad clockers, you may have a card which can hit 1200Mhz+ , just try bumping it up 5-10mhz at a time and then stress test. Wouldn't wanna go much higher than 1.25 on the Voltage so just leave it there until you find a max Vcore, then lower the voltage in small increments until you find instability, once you do, bump it up slightly and you're good to go :)

In regards to memory overclocking, while the benefits are generally small, its still a gain. It's up to you if you want to start playing with the memory clocks. One thing at a time though man, find your max Vcore first :)

    Good luck

1200 is more easily hit on water where you can really pump volts. 1.25vcore is quite a lot for 1150, at least in my experience with my Diamond. Your well within thermal limits if your only hitting 70C. That said yes OC memory as it makes a difference.

    I run 1125/1575 as my 24/7 clocks @ 1.125v on my 7970. I have benched at 1150/1600 and 1200/1700 @ 1.2v. 1200/1700 was my goal back when i planned on going water.

1150 is a solid core clock, you need to try and get that memory up if you can.

I agree with Enmity find your max clock for each bumping a little at a time.

That said for some reason when i got mine i was concerned with pushing and pushing hard. I basically installed the card and went benching. To see if i had a "really good clocker" i went straight for that 1200/1700 mark with 1.2v. Of course the reference blower can't contain that kind of heat so my fan was naturally on 100%, got artifacts but it still benched 3dmark, had none on valley. At the time i had my freaking phenom... wound up with 47fps in valley and a score of 1966. Feel like my system now or even my OCed 8320 would've net me a little more.

Locco be sure to be careful with that 7970, Tahiti isn't Hawaii and 85C is the max temp for Tahiti and truthfully i wouldn't want to be over 75C. You also might want to check your VRMs XFX's DD cooler doesn't actively cool the VRMs, so they could be much hotter, which is going to increase risk/degradation.

    i HAVE MSI R9 280X and i got a stable OC:
    1150 core lock
    1600 memo clock
    +20 power
    +19core voltage
    temps never go above 75°

No its not like that at all mate.

I know Thaiti XT2 (its GHz ED) and thermal MAX is for XFX DD 96* celsius nad VRM's are air flowing as well and diff are MAX >3* cel.
And Temps like 76-79-85 cel. are OK for this GPU's

Im plaing games with default Stock 1050/1500 1169v and temp are 68-76* cel. MAX for me
    OC'ed 1100/1600 1216 +10% Pow MAX 78-82* cel.
For MAX OC 1180/1650 1260 +20% Pow 85* cel. MAX so everything is perfect !

And support XFX tells me that 95* cel. is a warning Temps for this Model XFX DD 7970 GHz ED, and i think they know it better than we are. Greets bratan :bounce:

    Hello mate,

I was playing around with my card last night, actually both but I've disabled one completely until i can get a larger monitor, and managed to get it to around 1150/1560 without any volt changes on stock cooling with a new bios. That horrid temp/fan issue is now long gone :)

I think there's definitely potential to pump it up a little more but i'd like a nice water block on there and better vram cooling.
