ok i just purchased a 2600k and its on its way along with a asus p67 delux.

my current set up is a amd phenom 965be oc'd to 40.ghz
    a gigabyte 990xa ud3 with the fsb oc'd to 2200mhz and the ht link oc'd to 2200mhz
8 gigs ddr3 rip jaw 1600 series (optimized for p67 chipset)
    a xfx 6950 2gig 256bit
a crucial m4 64 gig ssd (boot drive)
    and a corsair 650w psu 1 12v rail at 64amps

When i do this upgrade will i see any increase in gaming fps? will my ram perform better?

    i upgraded from a 1090t at 4ghz to a 2600k at 4.5ghz.

despite going from a gtx580 to a gtx560 soc, my fps went from 40fps to 85fps in crysis 1 (same settings), from 45fps to 130+fps in starcraft 2 (despite running higher settings on the 2600k), and from 50fps to 130+fps in cod black ops.

so yes, you will notice a big ass difference in cpu bound games.

but for games that are gpu bound, the difference will be milder, but the minimum framerates will be higher.

because of your posts i decided to upgrade right now to sandy bridge and not wait for ivy anymore. i'll replay all my games that were cpu bound.

A stock 2600k will blow the pants off your current 965 even overclocked. Again games that are heavily dependant on GPU, such as Metro will see the least improvement. But CPU bound games you will see such a notable difference you will want to wet yourself. The 2600k will breath new life into your 6950, and really allow it to stretch it's legs. Friend of mine recently went from a Phenom 9850 to a 990/DDR3/970 combo, and then complains how it didn't make much of a difference in his CPU bound games like RE5. I tried to convince him to open his eyes and go with a z68/2500k combo but he wanted to be a fanboy, and now look he is lamenting his upgrade. Now he is talking about popping in a FX-8150.:bang: Enjoy and please post back once you have your new system up and running.

I was going to wait until Ivy Bridge... but temptation from Black Friday deals got to me.

    Ordered 2600k setup.

If I see Ivy Bridge being a much better chip in the summer of 2012, I might upgrade to that.

    Old specs:
    ASUS P5Q Deluxe
    C2Q Q9650 @ 4 GHz
    OCZ 8 GB DDR2 1066

    Expected new specs:
    GIGABYTE Z68XP-UD4
    i7 2600k @ 4.8+ GHz
    Corsair 16 GB DDR3 1600

Should see a significant jump in games like BFBC2 MP.

    Someone on OCN did a test with 2500k @ 4.5 vs Q9650 @ 4.5
Frame rates in BFBC2 MP with an HD 5870 at same settings, jumped from 50 fps on the Q9650 to 120 ish on the 2500k.

That's going to be nice

very nice that is the response i wanted to here. i play bf3, so i cant wait to see it scream.

once my parts get here my new rig will consist of

    intel 2600k
    asus p67 delux
8gig gskill rip jaw C8 8-8-8-24 (optimized for the p67/z68 chipset)
corsair 650 watt psu 1 12v rail at 64 amps
Crucial M4 series ssd 64gig boot dirve (sata 3)
Intel ssd storage drive (sata 2)
    XFX 6950 2gig 256bit
    Corsair H50 water cooler
    Antech 1200 full tower

I will try to get 4.8 out of the cpu hopefully without a lot of heat build up.

Also do you think i would be able to add another XFX 6950 2gig 256bit card and crossfire them with my current psu?

Here is a link to my current psu

    Core i7 not i5:3eyes:

with my current 965 co's to 4.0ghz paired with a 6950 im getting 45-60 fps on ultra settings with aa set to 2x full server caspian borader and khrag island.

but im leaving the 965 behind for the 2600k. Bulldozer was a flop so intel it is:invasion:

ok.... im back and i am running on my new set up. i must say this pari is just amazing.

i72600k with a asus p67 delux paired with a xfx 6950 2gig and gskill rip jaw ddr3 1600 (optimized for p67/z68 chipset.... its just unbelievable. with my m4 ssd i boot to windows desktop in about 10 sec. everything is just.... fast. lol.

very happy with the switch from amd to intel. this chip at stock clock speeds blows my old amd 965 oc'd to 4.0ghz outa the water. (also up'd my ram speeds by a lot)

The 2600k is much more powerful at the same clock speed, and it can be overclocked much higher. The performance difference will be large.

If you think stock is fast you should see it at 4.5GHz+ lol well not that you'll need all that power but yeah the CPU to get right now for price/performance ratio would be the i5 2500k or the i7 2600k. I have a feeling after AMD hides from the CPU stage for a while that prices will only go up (like they are now).

Glad everything worked out and you're pleased with your purchase. FYI at stock volts you should be able to bump things up to 4ghz. I am running 4ghz 24/7 at 1.200 volts (CPUID) 1.165 (UEFI). Over 4ghz is easy too, not that it's needed, just keep bumping the volts till your stable.

    Got my 2600k.

I'm not particularly lucky as I needed 1.33v (under load) for 4.4 GHz.

I have it set to 1.36v in BIOS, and LLC is on Level 4.
