    260.99 vs. 266.58 drivers benchmark

    Setup

    Intel q9650 processor @ 3546MHz
    PNY GTX 460 @ 855MHz core, 2220MHz memory, 1710MHz shader
    4GB PNY DDR2 800 @ 5-5-5-18
    Windows XP 32bit

All tests are taken 3 times and an average is calculated from the 3 tests.

    3Dmark06

    Settings:
    1280x1024 resolution

    Results:
    260.99: 19,465 marks
    266.58: 19,695 marks

    Improvement = +1.18%

    FarCry 2 benchmark (action scene)

    Settings:
    1920x1080 resolution
    Ultra High quality settings
    8x Anti-Aliasing
    DirectX 9

    Results:
    260.99: Average of 33.26 FPS
    Minimum of 27.26 FPS
    266.58: Average of 32.78 FPS
    Minimum of 28.07 FPS

    Improvement = -1.46%

    Half-Life 2 lost coast benchmark

    Settings:
    1920x1080 resolution
    Maximum quality settings
    16x AF
    6x Ant-Aliasing

    Results:
    260.99: average of 205.13 FPS
    266.58: Average of 203.42 FPS

    Improvement = -0.84%

    conclusion

It appears as if the 266.58 drivers are in fact not as good as the 260.99 drivers in DirectX 9 games with a general reduction in average frames per second that said the 3d mark 06 results did show a sight improvement. I can’t speek for DirectX 10 or 11 but I recommend that all those still with DirectX 9 to stick to the older drivers

Thats on youre system, in my system using 260.99 gives horrible performance in many games.

Rofl ,Nope, not win7 problem at all.m8, im currently running the 260.99 set and running Win7 x64 and everything is running perfectly, in fact they are the best drivers IVE ever used on MY system, and as we ALL know : there will ALWAYS be varied results with drivers over different environments, and different hardware combinations etc

Drivers are NOT just about FPS. Let alone miniscule variations between them. Aside from fixing issues, compatibility, game optimizations, drivers can also be optimized to improve image quality in which case FPS may take a hit. There can be a driver with a 1000pt score increase in 3dmark but turn out ****ty as hell in actual use. Anything +/- 5% with me is COMPLETELY ignored in my book, I look at the overall driver functioning in games and in actual use.

One small little ting that you have failed to notice is that you are all using windows 7 64 bit, while I am using Windows xp 32bit. NVIDIA release 2 different drivers for 64 bit and 32 bit. The 64 bit ones might be fantastic but the 32 bit ones aren’t.

And please don't treat me like a 5 year old, I've probably been in the business since before you were born.

Well if you've been in the business that long, then you surely must realise that there will be different results on different systems, and basing all DX9 games on some old games and benchmarks might not be accurate.

hahahaha. Look, the guy's only posting his findings with DX9 stuff... Ya'all don't need to go militant about it.

Who cares anyway, isn't every game running AT LEAST DX10 these days?

Nope, most stuff is DX9 only.

A better comparison would be say test the drivers with NFS HP, or COD:BO, though both run better in XP anyway.

Ya games still mostly use DX9.

One thing hasn't been mentioned yet, but I actually don't know if its true for everyone. This driver fixed my CoreAVC slowing down and stuttering. I even had that problem on 265.90 Quadros.

So 1% drop is nothing compared to the smooth playback of HD videos.

you need some more testing, really FC2 and HL2 are the only tests? and you based your conclusions on that?

    -MafiaII
    -FFXIV
    -Dirt2
    -Heaven
    -RE5
    -DMC4
    -LP2
    -GTA4
    -Metro2033
    -Just cause2

if you included all those or at least half of them then i wouldn't mind, but just those 2-3 lol:bang::nerd:

Yes I know it runs differently on different computers, after all no one processor chip is exactly identical. But as a whole if you have your system up and running normally then it will behave the same way as a computer with the same components.

I did this to show that if you are still running 32bit then just stick with the older drivers. But of course the margin is so small you would have to try it out yourself to find out exactly how it will perform.

Unfortunately I don't have any of those. But yes I get your point. It's just benchmarking is an awfully time consuming task.

He's using XP 32bit with 4GB memory, and he is CPU bottlenecked, enough said.
