    Hi.

I wanting to up my current system to 2 x GTX 260's.

ATM im running Phenom X4 9950, 3 x HDDs, and the GTX260 all on a Corsair HX650W. The Corsair calculator says that I need 1000W... Is this correct, or will the 650 do it?

Also (assuming the HX650W is fine) The PS only comes with 2 x PCI-e connectors straight from the power supply. It also comes with 2 x molex-PCIe connectors.. Are these fine to run?

    Thanks

Well im pretty sure you dont need anywhere nears 1000w to run 2 GTX260's, you might be cutting it a little fine with your 650W. But i think it should do it, otherwise upgrade to 750W Corsair and that would be enough.

yeh 1000w seems rather high - i guess thats a gd marketing tactic from corsair tho!
i agree with above 750w would be enough, with 650w just cutting it.

i beleive most 750w and above would come with 4 6 pin connectors for the purpose of putting to cards together but as always worth double checking if you buy one.

It will handle it without a problem.

You will be pushing that PSU to the edge and for long term use thats never a good thing. If I were you I would look at getting a better PSU.

Indeed his system should only be pulling around 420w on full load.

GTX260 say will only use around 15A per card so hes still got at least 20a to play with.

    Thanks for the replies.

And if I did run the 2 GTX260's for a while, but the HX650W gave out?
What could happen? Worse case scenario..
    Just a shutdown?
    Can any parts fail?

    Actually

the Corsair HX650 max theoretical load is 816watts

though we both know it would melt lol

Probably nothing maybe just a blue screen tbh.

Hmm.. OK. I just calculated using this tool, with SLI GTX260, CPY, 3 HDDS etc etc
    20% Capacitor Aging = 589w
    50% Capacitor Aging = 736w

Looks like i just better save for a 750 just to be sure... Cause you can never be too sure.

You can try... but I know I didn't want to try it on my 620w 48A

    Source? 52a x 12v = 624. Are you adding 3.3v,5v, and negative rails?

It will work, just dont expect it to last long and you may experience issues. I personally find that miscalculating demands hurts resale value and chance of repeat customers when the psu fails

The HX650 is definitely enough given the appropriate connectors.

    one GTX 260 requires 3x75W(2x PCI-e cords x 75W + PCI-e slot 75W) to work w/o issues = 225W
Two will run good when fed 450W....add cpu (80W), RAM 25W, hdds dvds...650W limit soon. But I dont think 450W for two 260s, maybe 400W....If you're on the limit too long(1-2 years??), PSU will fail..and perhaps drag some hardware with it.

it will work for a while I guess. but if the psu blows it may take some components with it

get a cheap 300w and use one of those adapter things and run one card off of it if you're paranoid
