his cpu and system is more than good enough for a 6600gt.

  5. yeah i can't see how my processor would be holding me back so much, i am really at a loss as to what to do, if i go an buy a new processor and it is still poor performance then i have wasted 300 bucks, (Australian)

    dude...55fps isnt bad, especially on a 533mhz FSB P4
Your CPU and FSB speed is definitely choking that card.

and i just took notice that u have a xfx brand 6600gt. xfx agp 6600gts are known to have problems. probably due to the xfx bios or the way xfx cools the gpu or hsi.

as for all the ppl saying the 6600gt is bottlenecked. how does a card that is no more faster than a 9800xt bottlenecked by a 2.4ghz cpu?

uninstall all drivers (including previous ones-use a driver cleaner) then install new drivers. make sure you have your AGP Aperature set to 256.

    good luck.

I'm restricted by my fsb a little also, i'll more than likely be upgrading in a few months to a 3.2 Pentium...just can't decide on whether or not I want the Prescott or the Northwood processor.

I had a 9800xt till recently and it got chocked by my intel 2.4 533mhz fsb I went to my current 3.2 800mhz and saw a massive difference in fsp

For your system specs. the fps you're getting looks about right.
But it all depends on what settings your testing at, resolution, AA,AF etc. which you haven't indicated at all.
What do you think you should be getting?

that's right, people expect 6600gt for some really high FPS...
the gap between 6600gt and 6800 is pretty big...
6600gt is just good for the price you pay.. ..a good cost/worth balance... however you say it :)

My specs aren't much better than yours and I get about 95fps in the stress test and that's with high settings. I think you should be getting at least 20fps more. Trying doing a fresh install of windows. (Which drivers are you using?) If you really can;t face a compete re-install do what someone else here suggested - unistall your drivers, run driver cleaner and reinstall the 66.93s. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Btw, do you have any 3Dmark or Auqamark3 scores?

There's nothing wrong with his XFX, he gets the results he should get with a 2.4 Ghz 533 fbs P4. About the same as my friend with his 2.53 Ghz P4. Overclock or get a new CPU.

To the last poster, you have a 2.8 Ghz 800 FSB overclocked to 3 Ghz, and your "specs aren't much better" than his??? Yeah, right!

Sounds about right, oc the proccy to see how fast it goes and how big a diff it makes. The P4s with 533MHz FSB aint the greatest, the 800MHz ones are substantially faster.

2600+ as in equivalent to a 2.6GHz P4 dude, and its a well known fact that the Athlon XPs do a lot more work in general then the older P4s. Doesnt surprise me at all.

Altho 90fps *seems* a bit high on your rig, obviously depending on resolution etc. At 1024x768 or below it might do that tho, even with all the filtering applied. At 1280x1024 id be more then skeptical.

    what swttings ru using

U have not mentioned your settings

55fps is normal at 1280x1024,4x aa ,8x af, all details at max,
    for your rig

do send your settings the next time

Your build is not bad,but unless u play games at high res. your pc will be bottlenecked by your cpu
