use d3doverrider (rivatuner's tool) to force triple buffering on DX games.
vsync+triple buffer will give you fluid frame rate, preventing caps to 60/30/20/15 etc.

regarding mouse lag, you lower the pre-render limit value from "3" to "2" or even "1" via NVCP/Rivatuner/nhancer.
no more lag, no more tearing, no more fps caps

Download Reforce and remove not supported resolutions for your monitor, that way Windows will use the higher resolution you left (1024x768).

I can't get these to install. I was using 182.28 (I think) and tried to install these over top of them like I always do. The installer seemed to complete OK but I did hear the Vista ding in the middle of it as if my system was restarting. Then it asked me to reboot so I did but when my system came back up it was as if no Nvidia drivers were installed at all.

I then uninstalled the Nvidia display drivers and physx drivers, rebooted into safe mode, ran driver sweeaper, rebooted again, tried installed 185.85 again with the same result. I tried this several times before giving up and downloading 182.50 which installed with no problem at all. WTF?

    Any suggestions?

very rarely do i ever see any tearing with vsync off.. and the occasional times i do.. its well worth the trade off of not having that 'vsync mouse lag' garbage happening (which i get even if i mess with changing the pre-render frames setting)
