resident evil 7 has a minimum spec of 2gb of vram, so unless you have the 2gb version of the 6870, Im gonna asume thats the issue. not all games actually require 2gb of vram to run, but some do.

as to what i assume you are trying to say in the second paragraph, I have no idea why radeon settings would stop working / stop responding,
only thing that i can recommend is a clean install.

yeah the rx 460 is definately faster, its around the speed of a 7870, and a 7870 was any where from 10-50% faster depending on the title, though the variance was mostly due to the weak tesselation performance on the 6000 series cards . a 6870 would probably come in around 60-70% the performance of an rx 460 if tesselation is disabled. with tesselation enabled the rx 460 would probably be much much faster.

Hey. yes I have 1 gigabyte. but this problem is not in the memory. and direct-x
supposedly needed 11.2. or 11.3. My 6870 has only 11 direct. but 10 windows shows the presence of 12 .. by the way read that such problems are and powerful in the type 1060gtx / incentive write .. Looks to wait for a patch from the developers. Do not think that because Capcom sfeylitsya))
ps / about the language, I'm from Russia. my bad English (((Good luck

    The requirement is 11, period.
There are people playing with something as slow as a HD4600, and something as old as a 550 Ti, so both things are not the problem.

It's funny we now have video tab working, but we realize CL breaks dxva still.

Anyway, when we are talking of "broken in web browsers".. Is it simply about acceleration not working, or did somebody experienced actual problems?

Because in the former case it's a totally different kind of problem.
I wouldn't know for chromium, but Firefox keeps a "blocklist" of malfunctioning driver versions (and sometimes even devices IDs themselves).
Which most of times are legit.. but let's think this stuff is usually only inferred from patterns seen on crash reports they [randomly] receive.

Every now and then possibly even forgetting whatever quirks they had put in place years before (like in my humble damn APU case)

Said this, I skimmed quite a lot of hell (btw, devs would love some feedback there imo) and I think I have found the issue.
Which TL;DR should just affect WDDM 2.0 drivers (ie W10+GCN only) and only starting with branch 15.3xx (it was then partly fixed in 16.6.1 and finally in 16.8.1 but this is another story).
But it's no joke for them to distinguish between that mess that is AMD marketing names and hardware. So.. We'll see.

If this driver was also available for W7 or 8, people wouldn't have immediately jumped to conclusion :nerd:
For the records, any driver between this and this (15.7.1) is blacklisted too

For the moment then, I guess the only right libs are 15.11.1 ones.

    ---
In other news, another nuisance that I had was: why the hell TeraScale 2 APUs has been left stuck to WDDM 1.2?
Because that seems the only whatever dumb correlation I found with the chips amd duped.

It might be as well laziness or.. You know, drugs, but it remotely seems like there's something behind.
Additional must-have features are indeed required from 1.3 drivers...
But for the love of me I can't understand why cards with the same core should be left in the dust. Something to do with display controller perhaps?
    I dunno..
EDIT: to test on W8.1 regardless

    Thanks for reading.

Firefox basically blacklists 90% of the older drivers whenever a new driver is released because of automated crash reports which aren't necessarily caused by a broken driver. You can force-enable HW video decoding via about:config even on the blacklisted drivers and DX11 stuff was always there if you force-enabled it. On my card even "broken" force-enabled browser DXVA works fine on all videos except for the 1080p60fps videos like youtube or some twitch streams. I don't know if this is a driver-related issue or UVD module on my card can't handle 60fps@1080p but this happens on pretty much every driver I've tried so I assume it's a crappy UVD module unless AMD are that incompetent to leave this issue unfixed. Video players also can't handle 1080p60fps properly and I get the same freezes and stutters as in browsers with HWA after a few seconds of normal playback.
Did a clean install of 16.2.1 and then installed this driver on top of that with everything selected including app profiles. Had no crashes yet in the "Gaming" section. However by default CS:GO profile says "Enabled" yet I didn't change any settings in this profile, deleted it and re-scanned profiles and tried to reset it but it still says "Enabled". I wonder if this is enabled because of the different FlipQueueSize which is supposedly different for CSGO even since the 15.7.1 drivers. IIRC modded 16.9.1 and higher also had "Enabled" under CSGO profile.
Changing video settings in "Video" tab works fine on MPC-BE + madVR if video is accelerated by the GPU.
Would be nice to have openCL working as well but doubt it's possible to do so with the newer DXVA dlls.

as i under stand it the problem is that dxva is broken for webrowsers on 15.201.X, and the 15.201 drivers are blacklisted, however because we are using a mixture , chrome, edge and firefox don't recognize it, firefox has no visible issues because if it detects a fault it has a software fallback(when it detects dropped frames). chrome and edge however do not , and so videos that can be hwaccelerated do not play (i can attest to this i have seen it first hand)

enabling the video tab on drivers with the 15.201 libs might work, haven't tried it, of course dxva for browsers would still be broken. but it might still work for apps like vlc.
opencl "should" be possible on even the newer libs, the reason it doesn't work is due to the lack of an opencl profile in APP 3.0 which dropped support for the 6000 series and earlier, whether it would be possible to patch in profiles from APP 2.9 and how you would go about doing that I have no idea.

For chrome only bugs I could find are here and here.
Why this should affect us, god only knows.

Still confident firefox guys will be able to get back to me c:

Does Radeon Settings panel works slow for everyone else as well? Like clicking Gaming tab and then Global Settings -> Global Overdrive the panel would freeze between the clicks for about 5 seconds or so. Doesnt crash, just freezes often which is really annoying. This didn't happen on previous releases, must be a 17.x issue?
    Nope.

had that freezing issue with the game profiles, no problems with overdrive, deleting all the profiles and rescanning it went away. probably a bug with the radeon settings its itself.

Doesn't happen every time but happens quite often. I'll try to delete all profile and do a rescan, maybe it'll go away.

I'm back to 15.7.1 with both ocl and dxva working, I suppose. Now even LibreOffice is ocl accelerated (5.3.0) so I'll stick with this version.

After using 17.x for a few days, I think I'll roll back to 16.2.1 for now.
Got a few issues with the 17.x Radeon Settings panel:
    - freezes and becomes unresponsive quite often
    - driver seems to ignore game-specific settings, at least the Overdrive portion of it e.g. if I set custom overdrive in game profile and launch the game, driver will still use overdrive settings from the "Global" profile.
    - wrong memory clocks show up in MSI Afterburner, e.g. @idle memclk should be 150mhz for my card but it shows up as 300mhz, GPU-Z monitoring shows correct values (could be an MSIAB bug with non-gcn Crimson)

Even though it's pretty nice to have video tab working, those two bugs really annoy me. Panel is mostly useless when Game profiles don't work properly and constant freezes when navigating panel make the experience even worse. The most stable modded release for me was with the 16.9.1 panel.

I've found that sometimes game executables do not get properly detected, especially with Steam games. I fix this by deleting the old profile, and make a new one manually pointing to the correct game executable I use. (Some games have more than one)

Might be the case, only tried this with Steam games like CSGO and Rocket League. Already rolled back to 16.9.1. with working "Video" tab so I can't test it right now. Still I'll wait for another release (if there will be another one...) since panel freezes are extremely annoying.

First of all, thanks for the job done OP.

Can someone tell me if this is compatible or recomended (perfomance wise) to a 4650 mobility? terascale 1 afaik
    Win 10 here

    Thanks in advance:):)

there may be future packs that include opencl libraries, the last repack was more of a test version for the video tab.

I would like to add Its not really a mod, all the files are unmodified apart from the inf and the manifest, this pack is merely a compilation of edits, and parts, main goal is to use the newer verisons of radeon settings with the 16.101.x driver, since they are generally more stable and offer some newer functionality.

interesting, I have not had any issues since doing the delete and resan. windows 10 weirdness is probably to blame

In all likely hood I'll probably just probably just make a 16.12.2 pack with radeon settings with working video tab and call it a day since thats probably the most stable version atm, using the older ope

This is only for dx11 cards, you can try using, the last offical driver http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows+7+-+64, ironclads driverpack http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=387161 , or just use the driver provided by windows update. performance probably won't vary much.

    I also found this https://community.amd.com/thread/185041

As for the future, I think that the 16.12.2 driver is probably a good place to end things, got alot more functioning than i ever hoped for,
will continue investigating opencl+proper dxva support, getting a working video tab with opencl is a no-go since im pretty sure radeon settings doesn't know how to interact with the older libs. even with the reg key the tab is blank.

I think what i will end up doing eventually if creating 3 final packs, A opencl included pack, a "clean" version with no opencl, and a classic catalyst pack that includes the latest catalyst+stable 15.201/15.20 driver. with Vsr if possible (if someone would care to explain how to enable vsr on the later 15.201/15.20 drivers that would be cool, I know it is possible since i have seen multiple posts on the subject but no details as to how it is achieved.)

Speaking of TeraScale 1 cards.. I have reports performance may be heavily hampered in newest OSs and latest drivers.
Imo it looks suspicious though, so somebody should test these claims.

Additional ideas for VSR are here and here.
I don't recall people with the thing working after the summer.. but whatever.

Also, last link has an example of "backported" driver from W10 down to W7
