What's your thoughts guys? Which should I go with?
I just went from .24 to .45, IMO they both suck. My pc was crashing and apps wouldnt load with both drivers. So i reinstalled vista64, and put .45 on it fresh. Guess what, nvidia control panel wouldnt respond every time. So i use rivatuner instead but to answer your question alittle better, they are about the same in performance, but the .45 is newer so it should have a few more bug fixes.
I use 158.24. Very good driver. Very stable, and very good IQ. 158.45 is also very nice, but it's not WHQL. If you like to F8 during startup get 158.45. If not get 158.24.
I'm using the 158.45 and do not load unsigned drivers at startup with f8.. but everything works fine. Did I do something wrong?
Well, that's interesting. I'd love to see it work. Anybody uses non-WHQL drivers and doesn't F8 on startup?
I've always used beta (non-WHQL) drivers and never had to do F8 startup.
It's the first time I hear of people with non-WHQL drivers doing this (I don't have to do it too).
Me neither there's no need to press F8, the driver will work as it is signed.
I have always used unsigned drivers as well and I have never had to press F8. I didn't even know that existed!
Non-whql nvidia drivers are signed. You need to use F8 for atitool and rivatuner and stuff though
Drivers signing is not the same as WHQL compliant, non-WHQL drivers can remained signed...
using 158.45 for a few days, no BSOD, no crash, stable just like i like it : D. games play almost the same as xp.
the 158.45 work great in vista x64, dunno what people are talking about, tons better than the previous ones.
That explains a lot. Thanks for the info. End of topic for me.
I'm using the 158.45 (International ver) for Vista 64-bit (Home Premium Polish Ed.) and I don't have to press F8 at startup (ealier I had 158.24).
As other people said: 158.45 are stable drivers with good performance .
I had major issues installing .24, i installed .45 and its brilliant. I am running vista 32 and i have no issues at all, performance seems better and have had no issues yet!
Excellent! Thank you for the feed back everyone. :approval:
What in the world are you talking about??? NO safe mode here. Very curious because all non WHQL drivers I've used work just fine for me in Vista x64. I'm using 158.45 and they are the best driver yet for me.
If you wanna know what he's talking about, try to install (and run) ati-tool or rivatuner. Both will attempt to install unsigned drivers to access the OS kernel and both will fail. As mentioned previously, non-WHQL does not mean unsigned.
On a side note, no matter what I do, I can't get either to work...even if I press F8 to allow unsigned drivers, I can't get the kernel driver installed for either. I've also tried booting into kernel debug mode and all the variants of "bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS" with no success.
Anybody else not able to get it working?
