I don't have time to read the thread, but i will explain you how the "120Hz" work

The 120Hz Tv has nothing to do with the actual framerate, The LCD is the one capable of drawing stuff on screen at 120fps but the source can be any Hz,

    How it works:

The TV have a computer, on Samsung TVs it have a Linux OS variant, it contains an special Codec like the ones on PC to see avi, mp4 (like ffdshow)... the HDTV signal from TV networks broadcast in x264 (video) & AC3 (audio) "MP4", same for HDMI

The codec works like "ffdshow", it calculates where the stuff its moving along the screen
& then it adds frames to the moving display

ffdshow have the same technology used on samsung tvs, you can try it:
-Go to the ffdshow video config
    -Then enable Deinterlacing
-in Metod change to: Yet another Deinterlacing filter (yadif)
    -& check Double Framerate

you don't need a 120Hz tv to have the dizzy effect like the one on samsung tvs, but off course if you want that effect always on all your stuff, like videogames & live tv, you will need a 120Hz TV, because ffdshow only work to see videos on your pc....

also the effect on ffdshow is not good like the one on the tvs, but it works, there is also Avisync scripts to do it better than the default on ffdshow

Shake frames its very common on all the stuff with variable framerate,
so you will need to have all your videos on 24fps or x264 to get full framerate on the TV

I have an old Samsung 120Hz tv,
Samsung its the best buy IF you have the money, because they are very expensive, but yes Samsung have other kind of advantages, like more HDMIs, better IRRemote, you can use your Pc to control the Tv, More millions of colors, Game Mode, etc

all 120Hz tvs have a little Delay, its only notizable on Games Like Super Mario bros. , But you can use the Game mode.
Game Mode Disable the "120Hz" (Disable the Codec Post Process, aka dizzy effect), so there is no delay

After you get an 120Hz TV all the other TVs looks Ugly :puke2:

    questions? :nerd:

It's called Interpolation, and isn't related to gaming fps.....e.g. it won't magically turn a 60FPS game into a 120FPS game - it's for movies and prob 3D gaming...

ahem!,.. that's a resume of my post... :giggle2:

    Monitors just goes to 120Hz
Tvs are at 60-75hz & does the trick for most games with constant fps
& looks ugly on bad framerate

    Its not relevant.

I guess not reading the thread was a bit stupid.

Life can be quite cold if you insist on not understanding what is being discussed.
Internet isnt the problem here ;)

Beware before buying a true 120Hz monitor:

After buying it you'll never go back so if it ever breaks down, you'll be forced to dish out the cash again :p

I'm considering to get that one as well, even if flatpanels review rated LG's fugly 120Hz monitor to be better.
Another option for me could be the Alienware OptX AW2310, which has a slightly higher pricetag.

120FPS on 120Hz feels smoother than 60 FPS on 60Hz, just something simple as minimizing and maximizing window's is much more responsive.
Games also get their fps pushed higher than with a 60Hz cap, at least that is what we have seen with Nvidia cards, not sure if it's the same deal for AMD.

If you can wait a few weeks and can save a bit extra, there are a number of 27" LED backlit 120Hz displays coming out very soon.
These are what I have been waiting for.

    Hey Blesner
Its such a shame that the base of the Samsung monitors are ugly.
I may be swayed if they are significantly better performers, its just that base...
    Symmetry counts for a lot.

Have you found any technical reviews of it?

I almost pulled the trigger today on the Acer HN274Hbmiiid.
As I was loading the site, tennis came on the telly in 3D using side by side images.
This is the first time I've seen 3D broadcast, so checked if the monitor can do side by side 3D and it cant, doh!

Such a shame because a good part of the fun will be in viewing 3D TV.
    So I'm not getting it.

Absolutely nothing on the web, I am desperately trying to find a review before I buy my screen. If you find one please post.

    Reviews are not always good.
I just got a BenQ XL2410T, and must say it does better than what Ive read in flatpanels review.
It has some backlight bleeding at the bottom, but I can live with that, since this doesn't affect gaming, only when a movie isn't full 1080p and having these black bars at bottom/top.
Tweaking the colors took a bit time; like on every other monitor, but got them perfect now.
As for 3D and gaming, shutter glasses is the thing to go for, every other tech still has to many issues.

I got the Samsung SA950D 27", and its the best panel I have ever owned, one cannot go back to 60hz monitors after this. There is no question that the difference is HUGE, whoever says its subjective has not got a clue about anything, it is so in your face, you cannot dismiss it. 120hz is the way to go for gaming on any LCD screen.

    Wicked.
Do you know if it can do "side by side" 3D, like the 3D tennis broadcast over the weekend.
The Acer monitor doesnt unfortunately, the only thing that stopped me buying it.

I have a 3D recording of Sharapovas last match ready for when I get a monitor that supports it :D

    Luck SOB!! :)

Im still waiting for the 23" 950 to come into the country.

I am not sure if you know but is it true that it does not support nvidia 3d @ 120hz 1080p?

Also please tell me how bad the backlight bleed is?

    Any Ghosting?
