Hello everybody, I know this question has probably been asked multiple times, but my case is slightly different and I would like your opinion on it. I want a 1080p monitor because I find it hard to push +100fps on more recent games, I think having a 1440p monitor would force me to play in that resolution because scaling it down to any resolution besides 720p would look like crap (and 720p for games is crap already). I am looking at the 272G5DYEB because it is at a discount where I live and it is 27'' (I find the bigger the better, I am ok for it being 1080p), but the only thing stopping me is not having HDMI. It seems to me that next year there are NOT going to be any new 1080p GSYNC monitors, even if GSYNC supports HDMI-out in the future, they will all be 1440p, IPS, and very expensive. So I ask you gurus, what do you think about a DP-only monitor? I have a Wii and chromecast and will not be able to connect them to the monitor (I have tried AllCast and it did not work). I live in a very small apartment and I do not want to buy a TV just to have HDMI-out that I am hardly going to use. Also, do you guys also think 1080p is dead for monitors? I feel this monitor is like my last chance Thanks in advance!
I plan on getting the next 970 equivalent, I usually play whatever comes out, the witcher 3, BF4, Arkham Knight, Just Cause, Far Cry 4. My FPS usually stays around 30-70 depending on the game in 1080p. I hope a new videocard can help getting steady 100s.
The beauty of G-Sync is that you don't need 100+fps for the game to run smooth. With you upgrading your GPU, I would recommend a 1440p monitor. Not only is it a little more future proof, but I would spend the extra money and get a monitor that will last you for several years. Most people don't replace monitors every 2-3 years.-
The beauty of G-Sync is that it will give you a smooth experience with 30fps or above. Anything less than 30fps and G-Sync turns off. I went for an Acer 24" 1080p 144Hz G-SYNC monitor as it was the cheapest going and it's brilliant. G-Sync eliminates the need for needing to have a top end GPU. Why have a top end GPU when you can have a top end monitor?!
I don't think that is true. I read somewhere that below 30fps, G-Sync inserts additional frames sort of like how 120hz TVs work.
Hello guys. Thanks for the replies. I ended up buying the Philips 1080p 144hz G-Sync. It gives me plenty of flexibility, for MP games, I will try to get 144fps. If it is SP, I can use DSR and stay between 30-60 fps and have G-Sync advantage in 4K, this also allows me to not have to upgrade my GPU so often. As for HDMI out... nobody said anything related, but I guess I will retire my Wii, and be more limited on Chromecast usage... it is probably worth the sacrifice. As for being the last 1080p (nobody commented on that as well), I still think in 2016 we will not see new 1080p G-Sync monitors, so I could not wait anymore.
I doubt you're going to see many new gaming 1080p monitors anyway unless they are budget models. 1080p has been the standard for quite a few years. Time to move on.
If worse comes to worse and you want to use a higher resolution, DSR is always there to give you some more AA.
My monitor arrived yesterday. I only tested 144hz + G-Sync, and 60hz + Gsync in some games that are capped at 60fps. My first impressions are: - 144hz is Smooooooooooooooth. - at 35fps, the game is not smooth like I thought it would be, but it is very responsive. - at 25fps it is jerky as expected. - 60fps capped games feels exactly the same as before (like mortal kombat 9 and magrunner). I still need to disable G-Sync to notice the difference between it enabled vs disabled. I noticed the tearing is gone, but at 144hz it was very hard to spot any tearing. I tested Killing Floor 1 which gives me 300fps, while uncapped any tearing was hardly noticeable, capped at 135fps (thus using gsync) it removed any tearing, but as expected for a 135fps running game on 144hz.
You shouldnt ever have any tearing Vsync, Gsync enabled or not on a Gsync Monitor. I've seen 600fps and no tearing on my G2460PG.
