1.8GB Geforce GTX 260 Vs. 512Mb ATI Radeon HD 4850 OK, I am the IT director of a small company and ordered a few new HP 380T's with I7 930's and 1GB video cards, Except 1 I got with a 1.8Gb Geforce GTX 260!, It lookked great with a double stack Blower on top and a big black fan/blower shroud. I figured I would take that out and use it in My PC and give that computer My 512mb ATI Radeon HD 4850 I bought 2 years ago. I figured it would be a nice upgrade for my intel core 2 quad Dell with windows 7. I checked out my Performance assesment that windows 7 has to see how much better my new card was. So the Older ATI 512 4850 was a 7.3 in the graphics rating, not bad but I figured this puppy must be a 8.5+..... NOPE I put the new card in, loaded the drivers, Ran the test and it ONLY GOT A 7.1 SCORE? Could it be possible that the 2 year old 512mb ATI is BETTER than the new 1.8gb GTX 260? should I go from a card with a 7.3 rating to a 7.1 rating. Which card is actually better for gaming?? what aboutvideo performance Graphics like CAD? Email is mmalkove@stewartperry.com
Did you properly remove the old drivers before installing the new card? The GTX260 is faster than the 4850. The 1.8GB ram wont figure at all until you need it.
yes, it is using the newest nvidea drivers and I uninstalled the ATI's software . It was VERY obvious when it wasn't, the icons were HUGE lol
So why is the Old 4850 getting a better rating than the 1.8 GTX 260? the ATI I think is a visiontek and the Geforce is whatever HP uses?? it is a 2x high Black plastic shroud with a Fan on the CPU and a blower. Not sure who makes it. So would everyone here not worry about the lower rating and use it anyway?
Did you properly uninstall the old drivers ATI. ie using a reliable Driver Sweeper? Check the clock speeds of both cards, the ATI may be pre-overclocked and/or the NVidia card may be running lower than stock for 3D.
7.1 is good. My GTX 285 only gets a 7.2 on both tests, and its quite a bit faster then the 260. So take those numbers with a grain of salt and run some real games to see how it truly compares.
The windows rating honestly means nothing, ignore it and run a proper benchmark(3dmark, a game, ect). The 260 should be noticeably faster than the 4850.
The HD4850 gets a higher WEI score because of DX10.1 support vs DX10 support on the GTX260... WEI doesn't take actual performance into account....
