Hi gurus, I am so confused right now I am in the market for a new gfx card and I am torn between the 7970 and the NVidia 670 they are both similar priced and they are both kick ass cards, when it comes to gaming it's not just 1 genre with me I like all types of games, I know the 12.11 driver has put AMD back up there and you get a lot more hardware or so it seems for the money but on the other hand Nvidia has it's own perks. I play my games at 1080p and would really like input off folks in the forums, can somebody give me a rough idea of just how good a 7970 is and does anybody own a gtx 670 I could really do with input on both cards pros and cons. Thx all.
The 7970 will be more futureproof, as more VRAM, also overclocks a little better than the 670 due to voltage unlocking etc. A 7970 will last for years at 1080p, also capable of running 1440p with ease.
TBH there ain't much in it, either is good for the money, I just personally think the 7970 is a bit better, and the numbers agree with me
Is £300 your absolute limit or can you go more? £300 in the 7970 range will most likely be a total reference board. I would get a 7950 with a good aftermarket cooler such as the Windforce, IceQ X Turbo or Twin Frozr 3 and over clock it. On Overclockers, the first non reference cooled 7970 is £335. EDIT - Nevermind, just get this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-gigabyte-radeon-hd-7970-overclocked-5500mhz-gddr5-1000mhz-dvi-i-hdmi-2x-mini-dp
The 7970GHz with 12.11 overclocked rapes the GTX 680, the GTX 670 is out of the question.. 670 is more of a competitor with 7950. What PNeV linked is pretty much spot on, would link the same to you. Good luck with the purchase, you won't be disappointed.
Dont quote me on that but i think this is a new batch of Gigabyte 7970 and they might be voltage locked! It was £280 at some point. I found it on hotdealsuk and few people who ordered said it was voltage locked.
If you overclock like crazy then go with 7970. If you want stability, troublefree gaming and overall great gaming performance then go with GTX670. I have personally owned both the GTX670 and 7950.
If you want stability, troublefree gaming or whatever and overall the best card on the market right now.. then either way go with the 7970GHz. And you don't even need to overclock "like crazy", just a mild OC is fine.. Once again, if you have the option, go for 7970GHz, not anything else. Simply not worth it. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-...d-5500mhz-gddr5-1000mhz-dvi-i-hdmi-2x-mini-dp
^^ Its not a GHz edition tho is it? i havent seen GHz edition for 300, i think the cheapest GHz WF3 i saw was around £360. But by all means OP you wont be wrong if you go for thi WF3 that dead linked!
Hi guys, I am considering that gigabyte one been looking at that for a couple of days now I have been taking my time picking because I wanna get my choice right, I have a question regarding locked voltage does this mean the voltage is locked on both bios,s or could I flash the other bios to another clock with unlocked voltage I have seen a 1100mhz bios was just wondering if it would work or not. Thx again to all fellow gurus for taking your time to help me.
The one in the link is not voltage locked. And Andreas if it says 1000MHz core, then it means it's, logically, a GHz ed. 1000MHz=1GHz, simple physics. + GHz ed cards are just factory overclocked cards. The core has simply been raised to "1000MHz", lol, and they call it the GHz edition. It's just something that is easily overclockable. You won't be disappointed with that WF3. I've got the 7950 one myself, very happy. Cooling and everything, build quality.. really nice.
