If you have 100% sure it´s a 770 (physically), then my money is on VGA BIOS problem ...
Only way to be sure is physically checking the board, this information can be manipulated by BIOS.

I thought the driver was good, but keeps freezing on desktop. Runs good on BF3, no crashing or freezing. Back to 314.22.
Maybe a driver problem. What version are you using? The last "more stable" version is 314.22, try using it and report back.
The PSU is my second guess ... Try with a different one, since the TDP of the 9500 GT is lower than 670´s.

Once you installed, I believe it cannot be de-selected. You can "de-select" when you dont have it already installed in your system, what is my case.
