1.55V is max safe volts. iv'e been running a Phenom II X4 955 3.9GHZ @ 1.55V since release. all fine.

My core 2 duo, isn't good as a reference, as it was HORRID at overclocking, it needed 1.38V to substain 3.8GHZ on a asus P5Q pro turbo.
It doesn't make a difference, however if you're SLI is PCIE split lane. (X16 X8) then simply select the second GPU..

Overclocking done CORRECTLY, wont put a toll on the cpus lifespan to any dicernable degree. keep temp and voltages in check, and you're fine.
